Baby P Mother Says Sorry In Letter To Judge

The mother of Baby P has sent a letter to an Old Bailey judge on the eve of her sentencing, saying she will never forgive herself for her young son's death.

The child, who cannot be fully named for legal reasons but can now be known by his first name, Peter, died after months of torture which was missed by police, doctors and social workers in Haringey, north London.

Written from a prison cell, his mother's handwritten note read: "Dear judge... I accept I failed my son Peter. By not being fully open with social services I stopped them being able to do a full job. As a direct result of this, my son got hurt and sadly lost his short life. I have lost all I hold dear to me. Now every day of my life is full of guilt. I am trying to come to terms with my failure as a mother. I am never going to see my lovely son grow into the lovely sweet man he would have been ... There is not a day that goes by that I don't cry at some point. I have let down my family, my ex-husband, myself and most importantly my darling son. I would like to say I am sorry for all the pain and suffering my failures have caused."

The letter was read out in court at a mitigation hearing before the 27-year-old woman, her 32-year-old lover and 37-year-old lodger Jason Owen are sentenced for causing or allowing Baby P's death in August 2007.

The three are due to be sentenced tomorrow.

The mother's barrister, Paul Mendelle, argued during the hearing that she had been "unaware of the risk" to which her baby was exposed.

"She ended up with the wrong man. She allowed herself to be blinded as to what happened to her child," he said.

Mr Mendelle added that the reason the mother did not tell social services she was living with her boyfriend was so she could keep her benefits, rather than to cover up the abuse.

During the two-hour hearing, the court also heard a victim impact statement from Baby P's natural father, who said his life had become a "living nightmare" since the little boy's death.

He said: "It is one thing to lose a child, but to learn that your child has been the victim of such appalling cruelty is something I shall never come to terms with.

"I can only describe it as total devastation, an all-consuming pain which is both mental and physical."

So who exactly smeared the chocolate on his face to cover his injuries so the social workers wouldnt see it?

I wish they would bring back the death penalty!

The bitch is just trying to lessen her jail term. She's not sorry at all. Anyway today's sentencing is sick, not just for her but for all of them involved. The justice system in this country is an effin' joke.

I'd like someone to break her back and ribs, im sure we could set up a fund to pay for someone to do that, couldnt we.

She will come out in a few years, meet another 'fellow abuser' have another baby and hey presto....HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF!!
