"Initially....[Kate and Gerry]...They were certain Madeleine was dead."
I found this in the Vanity Fair article, published in 2008, while I was looking for the comment about the "good marketing ploy."

‘I wish I hadn’t gone to the tapas bar. I wish I’d stayed in the apartment that night. I wish I’d stayed in the room when I checked on her five minutes longer,” Gerry recalls thinking in the days that followed his child’s disappearance. The world, he says, was “all black, with maybe tiny points of light.”
The company that owns the resort sent Alan Pike, a trauma counselor, over from Britain, and he spoke to the couple every day for two weeks. Initially, the counselor tells me, he found the couple “catatonic.” They were certain Madeleine was dead."

Perhaps you should send that to G Amaral, AnnaEsse. Im serious, he may not have this article.
As this was their belief at such an early stage, why then the need for the Fund to look for her.

I'm going to have another good look through that article because there are some interesting direct quotes from Gerry and Kate, like this one:
"It wasn’t until Kate walked into the villa at 10 and felt a sickening breeze—the front window had been jimmied open—that she realized something terrible had happened. “The scene was stark,” Gerry tells me. On one bed the twins lay sleeping. In the next lay only the plush cat toy Madeleine was never without. That was when Kate came out screaming, “Madeleine has gone!”
On one bed the twins lay sleeping? One bed? WTF?
Re: "Initially....[Kate and Gerry]...They were certain Madeleine was dead."
So the twins were on the one bed, and cuddle cat was on the other. I also noticed the jimmied window is back in the story.

Twins were in seperate travel cots, and the window was impossible to jimmy, so what nonsense.

I know! But that's what Gerry told Vanity Fair, published in January 2008.

Oooops sorry, I forgot we are in McCann world, if Gez said it then it's true of course I must remember the jemmied window turned into an unlocked patio door as well!! And of course Madeleine couldn't have wandered off because they love her! How do they get away with this shite?
