High Court Overturns Super Injunction
I know this is not about Madeleine but the High Court has overturned a super injuction against the News of the World publising a story about John Terry - Chelsea footballer having an affair.
Hopefully the same thing may happen with the McCanns at some point.

Re: High Court Overturns Super Injunction
I think what the judge said yesterday make the future reporting of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann look much more promising.

This ruling is sure to be referred to in future claims of right to privacy and I hope the McCanns won't miss all the money they've spent on similar sorts of activities...
The Chelsea star had initially used human rights laws to obtain a gagging order against the press, claiming his right to a 'private and family life'.
But the judge who threw out the order said he thought Terry was more concerned about the threat to his lucrative sponsorship deals. Even the existence of the so-called 'super-injunction' was supposed to be a secret. But in a landmark ruling for press freedom, Mr Justice Tugendhat ruled that the public had a right to know.
He told the High Court that people should have the right to criticise 'socially harmful' behaviour because freedom of speech is as important as the right to privacy.
But the judge said Terry had made no mention of personal distress and appeared to be 'a very robust personality.' He said the secrecy claim was more likely to be about 'protection of reputation' and was 'essentially a business matter'.

As soon as I saw the news about John Terry this morning, I thought things were looking hopeful for more honest reporting re the Macs.

Re: High Court Overturns Super Injunction
I"m going to play Devil"s Advocate here, sorry. LOL
What people do in private is THEIR business and Britain has a dreadful reputation for intrusive reporting.
How can anyone say this News was in the public interest?
However, in the case of Madeleine it is different. The McCanns started a Fund within days of her going missing
and you have to ask how they knew she wouldn"t just turn up before the Paypal Account was opened? Also,
it is Public money involved and donors have a right to know how it has been spent and why such inept Detectives
keep being used to search for Madeleine.

I appreciate what you're saying about privacy. But if people like John Terry like to spin a tale about the devoted family man and get lucrative sponsorship deals based on that image then I do think the truth should be told to the public. Why should the public be duped by these overpaid selfish people. Sorry for rant. but honestly it makes me mad. And I agree that the McCanns is a different thing from this John Terry business.

Re: High Court Overturns Super Injunction
I agree there are indeed differences between the 2 cases.
Personally, I have no interest in any personal activities or otherwise of either of the McCanns or any of the others on that holiday. However, there is not only the fact that a 3 year old child has disappeared into thin air without explanation, but also the clear reluctance of the parents and their mates to cooperate with the official inquiry, the fund and public donations, the talk of 'child welfare campaigning' and 'wider agendas' as well as the fact that Gerry is still working as a doctor to be considered. All of which give the public a 'right to know' imho.

Re: High Court Overturns Super Injunction
If the blocking tactic of using 'Super Injunctions' is removed, the Government will simply slap a 'DA Notice' on publishing any facts regarding Madeleine's disappearance.
We mustn't forget Prime Minister Brown has already stated something along the lines of, "That to to put information relating to Madeleine in the public domain would not be in the National Interest".
If what he says is true surely can only indicate that the UK Government is running scared as well as the parents.
Although if what he says is true it will be the first statement he's made that has not required a trip to the confessional afterwards.
