Paul Carter
Paul Carter Paul2010
Age:
24
Missing since:
21st April 2007

Paul boarded a ferry with friends, from Portsmouth to St. Malo in France, but was not seen to disembark. He was last seen on the overnight Brittany Ferries sailing going for a cigarette.

Paul did not show up to disembark with his friends in the morning.

There has been no positive sighting of Paul since.

It is possible that Paul returned to Portsmouth or somehow slipped through disembarkation into St Malo.

Mum’s plea to find Paul Carter two years after he disappeared on a ferry bound for France
Aug 4 2009 by Gregg Evans, Birmingham Mail

A DESPERATE Birmingham mum has made a heartfelt plea she hopes will re-unite her with her missing son – two years after he disappeared from a ferry to France.

Theresa Humphries from Erdington spoke of her pain after son Paul Carter disappeared on an overnight ferry crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo in France on April 20 2007.

At first it was thought Paul may have fallen overboard, but police have recently re-opened the case and are looking for new information.

Theresa said: “We all miss Paul dearly and urge him or anyone who knows of his whereabouts to make contact with the family.”

Last night Theresa, a community midwife, appeared on Five News in a special series about missing people.

“We are all still optimistic. It doesn’t matter what’s happened or what he’s done - the family are desperate for him,” she added.

Despite the 22-year-old’s two-year absence, Theresa and his 26-year-old sister Lindsay, have not lost hope and both still have faith that he will return.

“He’s lost somewhere – that’s all I keep saying – he’s lost somewhere, but we’ll find him.

“I think a mother’s instinct is really strong and I will never give up hope of him returning.”

The local labourer was visiting France to help a group of friends renovate a house, but never arrived.

His last sighting was on-board when he was trying to find somewhere to sleep.

Theresa said that he told her the night before his disappearance that he didn’t want to go to France yet she persuaded him to go.

“Being the person I am I don’t like people to let people down and I virtually insisted that he actually did go,” she said.

“I have to live with that every day.”

The charity ‘Missing People’ has been helping the police and the family in their search by distributing posters around the Portsmouth area, as well as putting out various appeals.

Appeal made for missing ferry man

Paul Carter's mother said her son was "family orientated"
The mother of a man from Birmingham who went missing after boarding a ferry to France has urged anyone who knows where he is to contact police.

Paul Carter, 22, from Erdington, disappeared on the overnight crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo on 20 April.

Police said they feared Mr Carter may have fallen overboard on the trip or he could have returned to Portsmouth on the return trip.

His mother said he was "a very family-orientated young man".

Police said Mr Carter boarded the ship with three friends and was last seen on the boat trying to find somewhere to sleep.

He did not meet his friends the next morning.

'Miss him dearly'

Theresa Humphries, Mr Carter's mother, said: "Paul is a very family-orientated young man, who is the joker of the family and he enjoys entertaining everyone with his antics.

"He is very close to his immediate family and spends time helping his grandad to restore classic cars.

"We all miss Paul dearly and urge him or anyone who knows of his whereabouts to make contact with the family."

Officers said they were keen to hear from anyone who was in the Portsmouth dock area when Mr Carter's boat returned.

He is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, and of slim to medium build with short, dark hair which is cut in a short back and sides style, and brushed forward.

Paul also has a distinctive tattoo of a snake on his right arm.
