Renee Bowman hid the bodies of two children in a freezer (AP)A US woman has been convicted of murdering two of her adopted daughters whose bodies were found in a freezer in her home.
Renee Bowman, 44, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree child abuse.
The freezer containing the two bodies was found at her home in Lusby in the US state of Maryland in September 2008 after a third girl escaped.
Bowman had already pleaded guilty to abusing the surviving girl, also adopted, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in that case. The girl, now nine and living with new foster parents, testified in the murder trial last week.

Bowman showed no emotion as the verdict was read out.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 22. Prosecutors said they would ask for life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Authorities said the older girls, Jasmine and Minnet, were killed more than three years ago, but they don't know exactly when. Minnet would have been 12, and Jasmine would have turned 11 last week.
Bowman moved three times over three years and prosecutors said she took a large freezer containing the children's bodies with her each time she moved.
The surviving daughter, clutching a Valentine's Day teddy bear, testified last week against Bowman, whom she called her "ex-mother". When she was seven, the girl was found half-naked and covered in blood after escaping from the Bowman home. Afterward, authorities found the frozen bodies.
Bowman continued to receive subsidies for all three children from the District of Columbia, where the girls were adopted. The subsidies are given to parents who adopt special-needs children from foster care.

The mother has been charged with killing the two young boys who were found dead in early February in a house in Millet, Alta., the RCMP said Tuesday.

Allyson Louise McConnell, 31, was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of her sons, Jayden, 10 months, and Connor, 2½ years.

Police waited three weeks to charge McConnell because of their duty to perform due diligence in the investigation, RCMP spokesman Cpl. Wayne Oakes said Tuesday.

"Charges cannot be sworn until such time as they have reasonable and probable grounds to believe that a person has in fact committed an offence," he said. "That decision was reached as of yesterday."

McConnell has been remanded into custody and will appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court on March 16.

McConnell will remain under 24-hour supervision in a medical facility until it is determined she is well enough to be moved to a correctional facility. That decision would be made by medical officials, Oakes said.

Privacy laws prohibit the RCMP from releasing details about McConnell's medical condition.

"Ms. McConnell has the right to medical privacy and I can't speak to her specifics without her expressed consent, and to my knowledge she has not given us that consent to speak about her current condition," Oakes said.

The boys were found dead by their father, Curtis McConnell, on Feb. 1, in Millet, a town about 40 kilometres south of Edmonton. A neighbour said McConnell told her he had found the boys' bodies in the bathtub.

The RCMP have not released the cause of the deaths.

Edmonton police said a woman tried to kill herself by jumping off an overpass in the south end of the city an hour before the boys' bodies were found. They have never released the woman's identity.

RCMP did confirm a car connected to the McConnell's Millet home was found in a nearby parking lot.
Couple in divorce proceedings

According to divorce documents obtained earlier this month by CBC News, Allyson and Curtis McConnell were in the midst of a divorce and custody battle.

The couple got married in Australia in January 2007, separated in November 2009, and began divorce proceedings in December.

According to the documents, Allyson McConnell wanted to take the children back to her native Australia where her family lives, and she said she would allow her husband access to the children.

But Curtis McConnell did not want his children to leave Canada and in a court affadavit, he indicated his worry that she might try to take them to Australia without his knowledge or permission. He also said he had taken the boys' passports for safekeeping.

On Dec. 21, a judge ruled the children were to remain in Canada and both parents would have joint custody of the boys.

I have no problem whatsoever with people who genuinely support the McCanns for all the right, compassionate reasons. What I do have a problem with, however, is people, like Katie Smith, blatantly jumping on the bandwagon and supporting the McCanns purely to further their own personal agendas such as misandry/feminism because of the alleged "bad man cop/woman victim" element in this case. Clearly the misandry/feminism issues surrounding Goncalo Amaral, Kate McCann & Leonor Cipriano have attracted a certain number of people with certain personal agendas such as misandry/feminism that we wouldn't normally see in most other cases of a missing child.

I really can't believe this news that a mother killed her children.Even though she's not the real mother of those two children,she doesn't have the right to do that.Well, Renee Bowman won't be passing go, won't be collecting anything, and I hope she gets the chair. She killed her children and hung their corpses in the freezer – I don't understand exactly how a person can even begin to contemplate doing that. She won’t have to worry about debt survival or payday loans now – she's only going to have to worry about either getting the death penalty or getting shanked in the showers. (I don't know if DC has capital punishment, or if that automatically becomes a federal offense.) It's in the courts' hands now, but…that is a good thing, because mob justice isn't a good idea either.

Renee Bowman Update: Life in Prison Without Parole for Killing Two Foster Children, Storing Bodies in Freezer

Renee Bowman maintained the cold, inscrutable demeanor she has displayed throughout her murder trial as a judge sentenced her to two consecutive life sentences plus 75 years for the torture and murder of two of her foster daughters, whose bodies she stored in a freezer for months after they were killed.

"I am very sorry for the abuse of the girls," she told Montgomery County Circuit Judge Michael J. Algeo, displaying no emotion. "It haunts me. It haunts me every day."

The bodies of Minnet and Jasmine Bowman were discovered in Lusby, a southern Maryland community about 80 miles south of Baltimore, in a locked freezer in September 2008. Authorities searched the home after a third sister escaped from the house and was found wandering the neighborhood.

Investigators concluded Bowman had killed the girls months before, while the family was living in Rockville, Maryland, and took the freezer with her as she moved around. Even after the girls were dead, she continued to collect subsidies paid to adoptive parents of special-needs children.

Prosecutors painted Bowman as a sadist who derived pleasure from her children's misery as she kept them in a locked room with a bucket for a toilet. All three girls had severe injuries from repeated beatings, and none of them ever went to school. The surviving girl, now 9, testified at the trial that Bowman beat them with a shoe and a baseball bat and repeatedly choked them until they lost consciousness.

As he handed down the sentence, the maximum allowed under Maryland law, Algeo seemed to acknowledge the inadequacy of the punishment, for the crime.

"You sentenced these two young innocent children in the dawn of their lives to a death chamber, and for you that option is not available," Algeo said.
