Pompey
So this fine old football club is brought to its knees by the star studded greedy journeymen. And who will suffer ? The wonderfull loyal fans of Portsmouth football club who have been paying their money at the gates all their lives and following their team all over the country. The staff at the ground who for no fault of their own may turn up for work on Monday to find their redundancy letters on their desks.
Yes,despite having sold about £100M of players to balance the books those who have been 'managing' this club in recent years have still left them with about £70M debt.
In what other industry would you get the sack for incompetence one day, leave with a bag of cash in compensation, and the next day walk into a similiar job and be 'hailed' as the next messiah, only to be allowed to do the same again.
In what other industry would your workforce (players) be allowed to come and go on a whim and be rewarded with massive signing on fees for which the oily agents would take a ridiculous %.
Portsmouth are bound know to be relegated, but thanks to the grotesquely sick premier league cash cow will be rewarded for their efforts with a £16M 'parachute payment for the next two years.
Meanwhile harry redknap, one of the main 'culprits' in this debacle is doing it all again at tottingham whilst wiggling away from the clutches of the IR fraud squad.
Lets hope Portsmouth survive and their loyal fans are suitably rewarded for their efforts.

I guess you refer to the article with James offering to pay the wages of some of the sacked staff.I have always quite liked David James as he is one of the 'characters' of the game,i dont see why his offer wouldn't have been genuine,i dont know what his salary is but it is most likely more in a week than these 'staff' earn in a couple of years or more,so i am sure he,and the other players, can afford to make such a gesture and with a bit of clever accounting it probably wouldnt cost them as much if they 'side step' the tax man.
I can well imagine the administrators, who are basically accountants, being very inflexible about such things as that is their 'modus operandi'
Personally i think David James is a decent bloke,i think he's done a fair bit of charity work which has never been much publicised.
There are some who have alluded to 'Calamity James' bizarre mistakes being a bit more than 'mistakes' but i think some of his 'howlers' you could not do if you tried.
Be interested to see what you got on 'spin' LA. Big money in football and a whole industry of stuff has grown up around it.

Re: Pompey
Well.A year and a bit on and the beleaguered club faces administration again due to the rather 'dodgy' sounding dealings of the parent company and its owners.
"CSI owner Vladimir Antonov has resigned as chairman and director of Portsmouth Football Club with immediate effect.
CSI only took control of Pompey on 1st June, but now the club are again facing a far from certain future.
Pompey only came out of their previous administration little over 12 months ago under the regime of former owner Balram Chainrai who sold the club to Antonov's company.
But Antonov is being investigated by prosecutors in Lithuania over alleged asset stripping at Bankas Snoras, and he is now under arrest and subject to extradition proceedings.
The Lithuanian government claims that about £250million has been misappropriated from the bank's funds.
As a result of Antonov's problems, CSI has been placed into administration, which Portsmouth confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday."
Oh dear ! mind you a big points deduction might do a few favours !

Re: Pompey
EXACTLY,YOU DON'T EXPECT FOOTBALL CLUBS WHICH YOU HEAR A LOT ABOUT IN THE NEWS TO GO INTO ADMINISTRATION,A BIT LIKE HEARING A BIG SUPERMARKET HAS GONE INTO ADMINISTRATION.cherry1 wrote: That one shocked me, I thought Rangers was a big successful club.
I WONDER IF THERE ARE OTHER FOOTBALL CLUBS WITH PROBLEMS.

Re: Pompey
Rangers is in a mess because of the wages scam, bringing in players you cant really afford and paying their wages 'tax free' off shore and now the tax man is hoping to put a stop to that and get his cut ,which in Rangers case is about £80 Mill. There are several Premier league clubs that have similiar arrangements apparently.
