20.45 BREAKING A former News of the Worlds news editor has been sacked from his position at The Sun over allegations of misconduct from his time at the Sunday tabloid.

Matt Nixson became News Editor in 2006, and reported to Ian Edmondson, an assistant editor who was sacked from the paper and arrested in April.

Mr Nixson joined the NoW in early 2005, having worked previously been a reporter at the Mail on Sunday.

He rose to become Features editor and was given the news job by Andy Coulson, shortly before his resignation in 2007.

Sources said he was escorted out of News International's Wapping headquarters by security.

I thought he was sacked because he said that James Murdoch had lied on Tuesday !

That article reads like a list of those arrested - Coulson, Edmondson, Thurlbeck, Weatherup (and presumably Nixson to follow since NI have offered him up as a baddie).

The Sun sacking story appeared about an hour or so after the Myler/Crone statement was released. Peston is a close friend of NI's Will Lewis and has lead with one or two breaking stories. Last night he beat the Times (sister paper of the Sun) to Tweet the Sun sacking. Reporters at the Times could have looked out the window and seen Nixson being frogmarched out by security.

Can't stand Preston, he's booooring, I watched him last night, his body language is a joke, he's uncomfortable taking about NI/Hacking.

He wasn't born to be a TV reporter for sure, his presentation style leaves much to be desired. Unfortunately this story has brought him to the screen a little too often.
