The amount the couple raised for Madeleine's Fund dropped from £233,099 in 2009-10 to £177,534 in 2010-11. At the end of March last year the balance stood at £125,175, down from £470,034 a year earlier, according to newly-published accounts filed with Companies House.

The McCanns, both 43, from Rothley, Leicestershire, had feared that the dwindling fund would leave them unable to continue paying private detectives to search for Madeleine.

To avoid this Mrs McCann published a book about their daughter's disappearance in May last year, with all proceeds from sales and a serialisation deal with The Sun and the Sunday Times going to support the search.

The fund's directors wrote in a preface to the 2010-11 accounts: "Over the past financial year, as with the previous one, the costs of the search continued to be higher than the fund's annual income.

"Income, particularly donations, has been lower than in previous years, as might be expected. It became apparent to the directors that without a significant financial boost, the fund would be empty by the end of spring 2011.

"In view of this, Kate McCann made the decision to write a book about Madeleine's disappearance and her parents' search to find her."

Madeleine's Fund was launched a fortnight after the little girl vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, southern Portugal, on May 3 2007. Donations flooded in from supporters around the world who wanted to do something to help her parents, and the income for 2007-08 totalled £1,846,178.

More than £487,000 was spent on the campaign to locate Madeleine and merchandise costs in 2010-11, the accounts show.

Last year the fund paid for the private investigators, a 24/7 telephone hotline for the public to pass on information, an ongoing awareness-raising campaign and three fundraising events.

They have had neally 3m in 4 years.......where has the money gone.

They have actually got more than that as it is up to march 2011....this year they have the book sales to add onto it ...

not on maddie thats for sure i can imagine on wining and dinning paying for all the lawyers etc when they attempt to threaten peopl etc i guess kates books sales ddnt go as well as she and the pros wished i didnt think itwoould ,,,,

Almost identical!

Time for Dr Healey to get a job methinks. She's apparently used to dealing with dead bodies.... an amazing 6 prior to the fateful holiday thus explaining the cadaver dog alerts to her clothes. They say 'ash cash' is a nice little earner, and it's such a shame to waste all that 'hands on' experience.

The vast majority of any expenditure will have been spent on Carter Ruck and that is nothing to do with the search for Maddie.
Carter Ruck will bleed them dry then spit them out.They are in the shit big time if they dont win a few libel cases soon.

So the split (or spit!) is probably going to be sometime in March, then?

What the hell have they been spending this fund money on, if its wages who the hell is working for them that costs £300k+ a year.
Ive said befor this fund could have been invested for future settlements, ie: Amaral Libel case what if he wins his case next month, up pops the fund money, nothing stopping them they have always said the fund is to be used for the search AND helping the family members of Madeleine.....well it desn't get much closer then her parents.
IMO I think Scotland Yard should be reviewing the Fund aswell, imo they would find more evidence there then anywere else.

Sadly, there is still no law enforcement agency in the world proactively looking for our daughter.

Fortunately though, we have a small team of very committed and experienced people working hard to help us find Madeleine.

Dave Edgar is the ‘Senior Investigating Officer’ (SIO) leading our independent investigation. Dave served as a police officer for 30 years, working in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (in the so called ‘bandit country' of south Armagh) followed by the Cheshire Police force. He is an accredited SIO and has managed many homicide and serious crime investigations. These include high profile cases such as the murders of ‘Shafilea Ahmed' and ‘Gary Newlove', being commended by the Judge in the latter case.

Dave has a full-time Portuguese speaker as part of the team who also helps with administrative tasks, and a part-time data inputter. He also has access to specialist teams who he can call on to assist when necessary.

In addition, there are several individuals and organisations with invaluable marketing and advertising skills (as well as highly motivated family members and friends) who help with the general campaign to find Madeleine. "

From what I can see the "team" is Dave Edgar a full time Portuguese speaker and a part time "data inputter". Note the use of the words "small team" - Perhaps small (but very expensive) team might be a better wording.

Well I'll say upfront that I'm beyond useless with figures, so have probably got this wrong, but does that mean they are paying one ex-detective, an unidentified Portugese adminstrator and a part-time date inputter 300k a year between them?

WTF?

The longer that this fraud carries on, the longer their gaol sentences will be.

The search for Madeleine McCann has cost £2.5million so far, the Mirror can reveal.

The cash has been spent on advertising campaigns and private investigators working to find the little girl, who vanished aged four from a holiday apartment in Portugal in May 2007.

Parents Kate and Gerry set up the Find Madeleine fund and were initially swamped with donations from across the world from people touched by their desperate plight.

But the offers of money have slowed to a trickle over the past two years - at one point almost leaving the fund empty.

According to company accounts filed yesterday, there was just £125,000 left at the end of the last financial year. They spent almost half a million pounds in the previous 12 months on the search for Madeleine, who would now be eight years old.

The fund, run by a group of directors including the McCanns, recorded an operating loss of £344,859 - up by more than 50% on the previous year.

Their report, lodged with Companies House, reveals the true extent of their money troubles in early 2011. It states: “Over the financial year the costs of the search continued to be higher than the fund’s annual income.

“Income, particularly donations, has been lower than in previous years as might be expected. It became apparent that without a significant financial boost, the fund would be empty by the end of Spring 2011.”

That financial warning was behind Kate’s decision to write ‘Madeleine’, a book about the youngster’s disappearance and their search for her. The book was published last May and has since raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to boost the fund.

The McCanns’ search has been helped by the decision of Scotland Yard to conduct a review of her disappearance.

In August, detectives made their first of three visits to Portugal for talks with the officers involved in the original inquiry. Officers working on the review are being led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who took part in the Spanish talks.

They are understood to be probing eight “very important” new leads after meeting private investigators in Spain last month.

I suspect that £300,000 of this was paid to Halligen for services rendered......and since his speciality was Money Laundering , say no more.

The Press wasted no time in printing the expenses but without the accounts lodged with Companies House . so we don"t know what the income was
for the Year.

At least the Daily Mail had the courage when reporting the 1st Year accounts to print the Companies House figures and point out that only 13.3% was
actually spent on searching for Madeleiene. Is there mention of Kate putting the £200,000 from the Sun into the Fund,? the substantial advance?
No!! and this report fails to mention that it is only the Royalties going into the Fund. Why are the Press so reluctant to criticise or investigate, this is
mostly PUBLIC donations which have kept the fund alive!!!

They auctioned off handbags donated by celebs but didn't make much from that.

Was the £45,000 raised at the Dinner in Branson"s Restaurant before or after March ?

That was in January 2010 so wouldn't count in that years accounts.
