Iv'e just watched this video again and was struck by Kate's Mother's response when she was asked how Kate first reacted to Madeleine's disappearance. What strikes you about it ?

There was another voice over for quite a bit before she started talking. During that voice over she looked very, very shifty to me. Once she started speaking, it wasn't about Madeleine at all, but about the priest Kate wanted to speak to.

I've been trying to find a quote from Kate herself, where she said that at 3 in the morning she woke up friends in the UK to organise a world-wide prayer meeting?

Didn't Mrs. Healy say that Kate and Gerry weren't all that religious?

I would agree that there is great power in prayer, but immediately after a child has disappeared, perhaps it's more useful to use other god-given skills: in this case, the power to get off one's backside and run around searching.

Didn't Mrs. Healy say that Kate and Gerry weren't all that religious?

Mrs Healy told the media, that after Kate had spoken to her about Madeleine's disappearance, she asked for the telephone number of the Merseyside Priest who married her and Gerry. She said she couldn't understand why her daughter wanted to speak to the Priest, because Kate and Gerry were not religious.

Mrs Healy said that Kate wanted the Priest to fly over to Portugal as soon as possible and according to a media report, the Priest and Mrs Healy flew out 2 days later, after the police gave them an escort to the airport. The report also said that Mr Healy who suffered from Parkinson's disease, was being looked after by a relative, because he was too ill to travel.

However another poster has according to information in the files, Mr and Mrs Healy flew out to Portugal with Kate's brother-in-law, Michael Wright, this information was not quite correct, Michael Wright is married to Kate's cousin. However it seems that the media report I read was not quite right, because Michael Wright is not a Priest, so maybe the Priest didn't fly out to Portugal at all, let alone 48hrs after Madeleine disappeared. I'm going to have a look on the 'net, to see what I can find out about the Merseyside Priest. Below is a link with information regarding Michael Wright, that some might find interesting.

Morning all...

The thing that struck me about Kate's Mothers' response was the age she took to finally say Kate was upset . Philomena by contrast said Gerry was
distraught and screaming. As a Mother, Mrs Healy must have wondered why Kate's first reaction was to call Fr. Seddon ,not be so composed as to
even think of it.

One has to wonder why Kate and Gerry McCann were so sure Madeleine was not going to be found any time soon, because all their phone calls were made within 1hr of Madeleine's disappearance and before the police arrived to investigate Madeleine's disappearance. The McCanns should have been out searching for Madeleine, the minute Kate raised the alarm that Madeleine had disappeared, their "important." phone calls and sorting out their timelines could have been made once they done everything they could to find Madeleine.

I understand the McCanns would have wanted to tell their family what had happened, but they didn't have to tell them within 1hr of Madeleine's disappearance, they could have told them after they had looked for Madeleine.

Post  mossman Sun 13 May - 9:11

I was raised in a Catholic family and now my children would attend a Catholic shcool, as is the norm for 90% of our population.

There are two types of people with "faith", in my expeirence.

One who believes in the power of prayer and will turn to prayer in times of trouble.

One who is a regular church goer and devout Catholic and their faith is part of their every day lives. These people do not practice their faith "under cover" so family and friends would be well aware of the degree of their faith and the fact that they regularly attend Church etc.

In my opinion, neither person would immediately demand the physical presence of a priest in circummstances such as a child being discovered missing. Both will believe in the power of prayer from wherever that prayer is being said. They would be happy in the knowledge prayers are being said, candles are being lit, in the hope of a happy outcome and the child returning.

Now, in the case of a loved one leaving this earth, the physical presence of a priest would be a comforting thing, almost a necessary thing. He is physical and present, required to bless the person departing, sending them on their way. It provides comfort to those left behind to see their loved one being blessed and the presence of a priest is the next best thing to God being there.

So for me Kates need to have a priest physically with her was much more than the need to have prayers said for the safe return of a child. It leans more towards prayers for the safe departure of a loved one gone forever and indeed forgiveness for herself.

The other very strange thing about Kate's claim to being a devout Catholic is her readiness to embrace the Protestant faith. In my experience there is a line that is not crossed when it comes to the two religions, the Catholic "side" being the more steadfast and un-bending of the two.

Kate McCann spoke to Father Paul Seddon by phone at 2am on the 4th May.

Later on the 4th May... her mother, father and Auntie Norah arrived.

On the 5th May... Gerry's mum, brother John, sister Trisha and husband Sandy, and Michael, (the husband of Kate's cousin Ann-Marie)
also arrived in PdL.

Is your report as true as the report I read, which said Mrs Healy and the Merseyside Priest, was given a police escort to the airport, where they would be boarding the plane to Portugal? The report also said that Mr Healy was too sick to travel. According to another report Mrs Healy, her husband and Michael Wright went to Portugal, the day after Madeleine disappeared. According to another report, Mrs Healy and Norah went to Portugal. So many reports, but how do we know which one is true.

Regarding Gerry's siblings, on Monday the 7th of May, John, and two sisters Pat and Philomena, were sitting on the GMTV couch, discussing the fighting fund they were helping to set up. They were also discussed the meeting they were due to have later that day, with an MP.

The trio gave me the impression they had not yet been to Portugal, but if they had, they only had a few hours with Kate and Gerry.

Morning AlfieFinn, honestly, when you read all this why were the Press being informed at such an early stage? Madeleine could have turned up at any time . What if there had been a real Abduction for Ransom? With Press around the world reporting on Madeleine, she would have been killed by the
Abductors immediately.

I feel much better now you've told me that you got your information from Kate's book of sex and lies. I can't prove that the media reports I have read are true, but I have followed the case from day one and I do know that from the passages I have read from Kate's book she has told many lies. No change there, because Kate and Gerry McCann lied from the minute the police arrived at their apartment, to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine.

It came from the horse's mouth... ie: Kate's book.

Haven't got time now... but if I find a reference to Paul Seddon arriving in Pdl, I will post it.

Very quickly... found this for you:

Father Paul Seddon makes a statement on Friday 18th May 2007 where he states ""I came to Portugal this week..."

I have just finished a telephone call with my mother, and something she said sums up this whole looking for a Priest question.

She has a very elderly neighbour who has been ill for six months now. As is usual during a telephone call, I said this morning how is "Mrs Smith". My mums response was this - nearly gone, they have asked for the Priest.

And that is what I was trying to say. The arrival of the priest signifies the end. "Mrs Smith" will not see this day though most likely. Her family have asked for the priest, not the doctor. They know nothing can be done. All they want now is the Priest and final peace for their mother.

Kate's initial reaction to Madeleine's disappearance. Empty date discrepancy?

Post  James Sun 13 May - 10:23

According to an earlier poster John McCann and his 2 sisters were sitting on the GMTV couch ON MAY 7TH discussing the setting up of a Fund for madeleine.

According to kate's book the idea for the Fund came over the weekend of may 11,12,13 when two lawyers from the IFLG flew out to portugal to see how they could help. The Fund was the idea of the (unnamed) paralegal) and the company was set up a couple of days later (may 15th)

Now how could John Mccann be discussing setting up a Fund on May 7th when Kate and Gerry were not persuaded that this would be a good idea until the following weekend?

Can someone post a link to that May 7th interview?

Thanks mossman , obviously Father Seddon can't repeat what was said , Father Pacecho, who lent the keys of his Church to the McCanns and lived to
regret it may hold the answer to the mystery of Madeleine's disappearence.. The Vatican wanted no more to do with the McCanns .

Post  The evidence Sun 13 May - 10:28

Hi everyone (havent been on in a long time due to ill health)

I am a catholic and yes, a priest is called for when someone is on their way out (close to death) :-(

If my child had gone missing, i wouldnt be thinking about talking to a priest or anyone else, i would be out looking for said child. The last thing on my mind would be to ask for people to say prayers for the safe return of the child.

My mum would be saying prayers once she found out (which wouldnt have been until all searches produced no sign of said child. My mum would also then ask the priest to ask the congregation at mass to prayer for the child.....ME, though, i would be too distraught :-( I wouldnt be able to function. I wouldnt be able to talk to a priest or anyone else, i would be screaming "Wheres my baby?" I would have to be sedated, which i would probably refuse because i would want to stay sharp to find my child.

Kate could have asked for the priest to say a confession. Another reason to call a priest, to unburden herself of guilt...IMHO say confession, get forgiveness, carry on......... :-(

In my opinion, the fact she asked for a priest right away was either to give a confession or she knew her daughter was no longer alive.
