British victim has been discharged from hospital today

British ebola patient William Pooley has been discharged from hospital after receiving an experimental drug.

The 29-year-old volunteer nurse was flown back to the UK for treatment on August 24 after contracting the virus in Sierra Leone.

The Royal Free Hospital in north London said he was being discharged today after successful treatment in one of its specialist units.

Mr Pooley, from Eyke in Suffolk, was airlifted back to Britain in a specially equipped C17 RAF aircraft.

At a news conference at the hospital, he said he feared for his life when diagnosed with the virus, and woke up in protective clothing.

"I was worried I was going to die," he said.

He also said his time in isolation in a clear plastic isolation tent was "strange".

"It's like being in a fish tank in a way," he said.

"Because it's all clear plastic around you I wouldn't say it was claustrophobic, but it was strange.

"Everything goes on in that tiny little space, there's not much privacy or anything like that."

He thanked hospital staff for the "world-class care" he received, saying he feels "wonderfully lucky" to have survived.

That video of the guy trying to leave the area is hard for the people to understand , especially as they need food. It really is a dreadful situation because they obviously feel like prisoners , It is to be hoped that zmapp , now that they know it works, can be produced in great numbers.

William Pooley , a Nurse working in Africa, has survived Ebola after being transferred by Helicopter to the UK and given the Zmapps treatment and gave a Press interview to prove how well he is. His Doctor advises caution until many more victims of the virus have received the treatment.

Hi Badboy, I think the zmapps cure has proved successful, all of the people who were given the pill , except for the Priest, have survived. It will take considerable time to have a supply big enough to treat a cases and in the meantime ,as you can see from the video I posted earlier many people in quarantine do not have enough food to eat ,their hygiene isn't the greatest so we are not out of the woods yet.

Also, Sierra Leone has ordered a 4 day lock down in the hope that Ebola will not infect anyone else.

The death toll is now 1,000 and 4,500 infected. Ban-k-Moon wants $600 milion to pay for continued expense trying to combat the virus.

I HAVE READ IN NATURE MAGAZINE THAT THE STRAIN CAUSING THE PRESENT OUTBREAK IN WEST AFRICA SEPARATED FROM OTHER EBOLA STRAINS ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO AND HAS ACCUMULATED 341 MUTATION SINCE SEPARATING AND HAS ANOTHER 55 MUTATIONS SINCE THE EPIDEMIC STARTED.

Badboy, there is concern now that it will take a long time to produce enough zMapps to treat the victims and Sierra Leone hastaken drastic action by shutting down the Country for 4 days. The people there must be educated on hygiene to stop the virus spreading which is the main reason for the escalation.
