Following up on the article mentioned above, I googled "Stephen Winyard" and found a Dec. 8, 2007 article from The Scotsman where he is described as "One of Scotland's most wealthy businessmen can today be revealed as the mystery donor helping fund the fight to clear the names of Madeleine McCann's parents." It goes on to say he paid for DNA tests carried out on the Renault Scenic hire car.
