Police are making a renewed appeal for a teenager reported missing from the Isle of Wight.

Luke Jeremy Cowan, aged 17, of Chapel Street, Newport, has not been seen since last Tuesday (June 16, 2009).

The last confirmed sighting of Luke was on Tuesday, 16 June shortly after 3.00pm when he was seen on CCTV getting off a bus in Sandown High Street between the junctions of Avenue Road and Albert Road.

He had been seen on CCTV earlier, boarding a Southern Vectis service from Newport Bus Station at approximately 2.15pm on Tuesday, 16 June.

Luke is described as:
● White
● 6 ft 2 ins tall
● Very short dark hair
● Blue eyes
● Freckles
● Broad build

When he was last seen, Luke was wearing:
● A light coloured T-shirt
● White tracksuit trousers with pin stripes down the leg
● Black Reebok trainers
● A black rucksack on his back with a white ‘Timberland’ motif near the bottom of the rucksack

Luke’s disappearance is being described as “totally out-of-character” by his family.

Luke’s mother, Michelle Knight, said: “I’m really worried, the whole family loves him, and I wish he would come home.”

Detective Inspector Nick Heelan of Newport CID said: “Police are making enquiries with public transport operators, hotels and guest houses, social networking sites on the Internet, and people he might have met at the Isle of Wight Festival at Seaclose Park in Newport earlier this month.

“I would appeal to Luke or one of his friends to contact the police directly. We just need to know he is safe and well.”

Luke, and anyone with information about his whereabouts, is asked to phone Newport Police Station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45.

Come home Luke, says mum

THE DISTRAUGHT mum of a missing Isle of Wight teenager has has made a fresh appeal for her son to come home.
Michelle Knight, 42, of Chapel Street, Newport, pleaded with her son, Luke Cowan, 17, to get in touch to let her and his family know he is all right.
Luke, a former Medina High School pupil, has not been seen since Tuesday last week.
She said: "If he is out there, he needs to come home because he is breaking my heart. As soon as I think about him, my world falls apart."
Luke’s oldest sister, Chantelle, 22, has been staying with her mum to support her and has put up posters around the town.
Ms Knight thanked everyone who had been searching for Luke.
The youngster, who was due to begin a plumbing course at the Isle of Wight College, was last seen on CCTV at around 3pm getting off a bus in Sandown High Street between Avenue Road and Albert Road.
He left a note telling his family how much he loved them and left without taking his mobile telephone or watch.

Boy's body in woods was grieving teenager Luke CowanBy Euan Stretch 3/09/2009

HANGING

A body found hanging in woods is that of a grieving teenager who disappeared two weeks after the death of a beloved uncle.

Luke Cowan, 17, had been missing since June, when he left a note telling his family how much he loved them.

Friends and family carried out large-scale searches and handed out leaflets. Luke's parents Michelle Knight and Larry Cowan made several appeals for information.

The body was found by a dog-walker in dense woods at Shanklin, 10 miles from Luke's home in Newport, Isle of Wight, on Tuesday.

At the scene was a bible and an order of service from the funeral of Luke's uncle Samule Cowan, who died of pneumonia aged 44.

Yesterday Mrs Knight said: "I think Luke wanted to be with his uncle again. They were best friends and used to go walking together."

Police said: "The coroner has been informed. The death does not appear suspicious."
