MR SMITH STATEMENT

I was just reading this and wonder why Kennedy went to visit Mr. Smith and ask him to take part in a photo
fit exercise? If it was anything like Jane Tanners would it be taken seriously? Maybe that was the intention

Re – Investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann

I took an additional statement from Mr Smith as requested. His wife does not want to make another statement. I showed him the video clip and he stated that it was not the clip that alerted him but the BBC news at 10 PM on 9th September 2007.

He has been contacted by numerous tabloid press looking for stories. He has been contacted by Mr Brian Kennedy who is supporting the McCann family to take part in a photo fit exercise. He has given no stories or helped in any photo fits. He sent a solicitor’s letter to six papers in relation material that was printed that was misquoted. The Evening Herald paid his solicitor’s fees and all papers printed an apology. His photograph appeared in another tabloid paper and this matter is being pursued at the moment.

I do not believe that Martin Smith is courting the press and my view his is a genuine person. He is known locally and is a very decent person.

Since when do 'washers of windows' take it upon themselves to visit witnesses anyway. I wonder if Sgt Hogan was a bit pissed off with Kennedy for doing that?

He interfered in everything, p***ed of the Portugese Police, flew to Morocco to get involved there and even offered a young lad who was a Tour Guide with camels a lot of money to report to him if he discovered
any evidence about Madeleine.

The Man does nothing for nothing and I wonder why he had become so involved.

Mr Smith NEVER didnt want anything to do with kennedy, in fact, mr smith had to change his phone no. AND move house.

It was said he done this due to the newspapers, i think it was done to get away from the creep kennedy.

He had NO right to pursue a man who was only doing his duty and that is to help the portuguese police.

If someone, especially someone like bovver boots Kennedy is looking for you there is nowhere to go! You can never get far enough away even with police protection, if it was available, they find you. Moving house costs a lot of money too, and they would still have had their property in Portugal which would have been vulnerable. My take on this, and it does not reflect badly on Mr Smith or his family, is that our friend Kennedy made them an offer they could not refuse - a monetary offer. Weigh this against veiled or not so veiled threats and what would most of us do?

Just noticed that it looks as if Mr. Smith is from Drogheda. Gerry Fagan, the co-owner (with Simon Burgess) of the Ocean Club is from there as well.

Yes Amethyst youre quite correct, at the time had eggman been released, im not sure when Mr. Smith spoke to the PJ. I really dont understand why Brian Kennedy is approaching any witness, I wouldnt give him or anyone else outside of the Police any information and certainly not a photofit. Is Mr. Smith's statement in the PJ files?
