Re: CAROLYN KISH STATEMENT
Overall, I do not see the problems in her statement that some others here do. Maybe it is me.
Statements from members of the public are often based on poor recollections. As far as I know, the police have methods for recognizing what is potentially useful, and what is not. And logic is useful also.
Some things are clear. Looking at a bank statement may not tell you where money was taking from (it might just say ATM, not which one). Memories of dates and times are very easily forgotten. Descriptions of people are often very bad. The key is, can the witness point to the correct person when they seeing a group of people with similar looks? I hope the police did this.
The important parts seem to be: she saw a man on the 7th May who was talking about a child, used the words meaning 'do not hurt her', speaking either into a dictaphone or mobile phone.
That is a very solid piece of witness evidence, giving the lack of other evidence in this case.
The chances are, from what we know, is that it was either a journalist or Gerry. A few questions then.
1) How sure was she that the person was Gerry? This is more important than a description from her.
2) If it was a journalist, why was he shouting in the street? Unusual behavior.
Surely if it is was a journalist, this would be easy to prove. If it was Gerry speaking into a dictaphone or a mobile phone, it is extremely significant. It could be evidence leading towards a possible abduction that G+K were aware of, or it could show Gerry as attempting to create false evidence by shouting loudly in the street.
As far as I remember it was reported that there were very few CCTV cameras, the only ones being privately owned (for restaurants, etc).

@ DavidA
You asked: "If it was a journalist, why was he shouting in the street?"
When I use my mobile phone, I sometimes have a very bad connection (especially if the call is long distance) and quite often find myself having to shout to be heard.
Perhaps he had the same problem?

Some people do tend to shout into mobile phones. There was one behind me in the queue at the bank recently and it was so loud that another customer turned round and said very loudly, "I'm sure we all wanted to know that."
Re: CAROLYN KISH STATEMENT
The Appeal from Kate was timed at 2pm, Caroline"s bank Account shows she made the withdrawal at 2.26pm
so the chances of it being a Journalist reporting to his Editor are pretty strong, especially if it can be proved that Gerry was not in Lagos on that day.

Well the significant discrepancy I see relates to the fact that it is quite clear from the letter sent to the PJ on 8th May that she was fully aware that it was Gerry McCann by that date but her statement says that she wasnt aware till months later. As I said earlier that suggests either some kind of lie or some very faulty memory work on her part. I have no idea which.
