Re: john hirst
I heard him on the radio. 5 Live.
He was disappointingly inarticulate.
And unable to understand peoples' points and unable to reason with them properly. At all.
He seemed like a reasonably okay guy when he was posting here/3As.

Comment:
We want a British Sarkozy. Cameron, is, to use Thatcher speak...thoroughly wet!
Criminals should lose their right to vote. We should do a 'France' If we don't like it....ignore it. Works for them.

For the soldier who wrote:

Please help yourself. He is in sale with less than 30/100 people who trust him.

Re: john hirst
Well they're human - so they've got human rights. Not against that concept per se. If people are supposed to be in jail and rehabilitated and all that, and come out of it a better person. But not sure why the right to vote should be one of those rights. If people are locked up and deprived of their liberty, they are also going to be deprived of certain things - like voting - stands to reason.
Which party will prisoners vote for?

Re: john hirst
The right of prisoners to vote was granted by the EU, and the British were coy about it initially and fighting it until recently, i just dont understand why they didnt fight it before it was legislated. IMO its the EU s ruling that wrong, not John Hirst. Hes just making sure that prisoners get what have been granted to them by the EU. jimo

I was surprised to see the vid of JHL celebrating his victory with a joint and champagne. Does his cause no good to be seen in that way. I wouldnt post of a vid of myself supping 4 cans of strongbow. To the poster who said he is a sociopath - I could go with that.

Re: john hirst
Jailhouse lawyer indeed. I was quite impressed with his efforts until I found out some time ago what exactly he'd done to deserve his sentence. Seems that it's widespread to get lots of publicity on the back of some gruesome murder.

Re: john hirst
I'm sure mine is not a popular opinion, anyway I'll put it here.
I dare say that the journalists have a way to express themselves that I consider, not simply bad taste, but insulting.
They not only insult the subjects they refer to, using adjectives I wouldn't dream listening from those drunken sailors so well portrayed in Jean Genet's books, but most of all they insult the readers that pay their salaries. Between the videos and the text, the distortions written were magnificent.
And I thought they were impolite when addressing Mr. Amaral!
As a defender of the human rights, as a believer in MANKIND, I support that criminals must be deprived of their liberty and of the conviviality with others in freedom, but, according to the humanist philosophy of our penal law, that is the only right they should be deprived off. Otherwise there is no point in imprisonment - it must work as a prevention (general, as an example to the public, and specific for that individual) and as a punishment, but most of all as an opportunity for rehabilitation. If we don’t believe in this, let’s reinstate the capital penalty and be done with it – why waste money with prisons?!
That's why I believe that prisoners must work or study, participate in activities beneficial to the community and of course, participate in the political decisions that affect the country.
After fighting for five years, Mr. J. Hirst deserves my congratulations, he proved to be able to fight for a cause.

Re: john hirst
For the pros...
Don't worry, if Mr and Mrs McCann ever come to prison in Portugal, I'll personally make sure to allert the Embassy and or the Consulate, to send someone there, if there's any election in Britain, so they fulfill their duty and their right as subjects of their country.
