Re: Zahra Baker's body may have been found ( confirmed it was Zahra ) so sad
'We really didn't kill her' sounds bizarre in the circumstances. If Zahra had died of natural causes or in an accident or even if she had taken her own life (something I don't believe for a minute, but it wouldn't have been murder) then why on earth would they lie about it and dispose of her body themselves? Particularly as the way it was disposed of sounds completely horrifying, not just 'kinda horrifying' as the stepmother said.Angelique wrote:This is tragic and heartrending. I am so sorry for the real Mother.
But what is this about the step-mother saying "we really didn't kill her but it's what he did after the fact that's kinda horryiying".
Or is she trying to distance herself from responsibility.

I guess if you are a psychopath dismembering a ten year old and putting their limbs thru a wood chipper is just
kinda horrifying. The fact thta they just threw her prosthetic leg out in the woods with her scattered bones is just so horrendous.
For the police, it was devastating and I am sure for the mother. She reacts the way I would react which I know there is no handbook but I don't think we'll see her out for a jog this week. She is literally unable to stand up straight or speak a full sentence between sobs, bent over with grief and you can't fake that wracked look on her face. There is nothing between her and her emotion for her child even a child she last saw 8 years ago before the father took it upon himself to remove her despite court ordered visitation.
The forensic profiler said that by the sentence "we didn't really kill her" step mom puts herself in the frame. Had only the husband been involved it would have been "he didn't really kill her, but what he did afterwards..." Why, if you did not kill her, and she just somehow died, would you not call the police but intsead fake an abduction? ANd in the sentence above, what does "afterwards" mean? After you didn't really kill her? It doesn't make sense.
Attorneys for both sides are leaping to the conclusion that you can't believe this step mother at all. I do believe her to a point. I think you can be an abusive B*tch to your step child and still be truthful to save your own skin, she told them what happened to Zahra and the evidence is horrifyingly clear that she was truthful about how and where they disposed of her body; why would she do that if not to make this deal, tell us where she is and what happened or you will go down for murder one and face the DP in North Carolina. She cracked and confessed to writing the ransom note, and then to everything else, his lawyers of course will dispute who killed her. Step mom is the one in jail now. They haven't said if all this was done with or without benefit of lawyer. How exactly Zahra died would be the difference between death and life for these people, this is no game. How is the father still out on bail and not rearrested for her murder?
Zahra was a special kid, going through cancer, leaving her home to come half way around the world, she still had that big delighted smile on her face. I think she moved a lot of people with her story, the cops certainly. their reaction to finding her as they did was intense and I think they will be very careful to make sure that Zahra gets justice.

People (for lack of a better word) who are capable of such evil don't deserve to waste our oxygen.

I feel so sorry for Zahra's biological mother, how awful to have to know the child she gave birth to had her life ended in such a dreadful way.
I felt sorry for the senior policeman speaking to the media, you could see he had to keep an iron grip on himself just to keep on talking. His voice was breaking at times, something that IMO does him credit, though I know experienced policemen strive not to show emotion if possible. But I've seen some hardened policemen here in NI in that same position and their sorrow for what they've seen and what they have to announce strips away some of the tough facade and lets us see some of what they feel. This is why the very idea that the McCanns could successfully hide their supposed misery and stay dry eyed and untroubled because they were told not to show emotion is something I just can't accept. This was their own child, yet there they were, saying 'she's lovely' and talking about her giving the abductor her tuppenceworth, as though they'd lost a cat that was pleasant to have around but that might scratch whoever had taken it. But no tears in public, no red eyes from tears in private, no choking up as they spoke, no words spoken directly to their child, no desperation, no eyes full of fear for what their daughter might be going through. Nothing, just a continual repetition of the words 'abduction' and 'taken' - seemingly that was the important point, God forbid anyone might think something different.

We could be surprised they used dogs. As we have heard on supposedly good authority that they are incredibly unreliable.

I agree with what you say - real emotion is hard to hide. Yes, we see it in the mothers face and voice. It's heartbreaking.
Yet - look at the McCanns - maybe they did cry when they were alone and as they said, they shouldn't show any emotion as this would give satisfaction to the abductor. They did look haunted from time to time, but was it from worry that they would be found out or suspected in the disappearance of Madeleine. They seemed to control themselves when it came to the loss of Madeleine - perhaps that's what Doctors do.
