Man arrested in Joanna Yeates murder inquiry
HLM | 20/01/2011 at 10:49 am | Categories: crime | URL: http://wp.me/pCs0i-1mL
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Joanna Yeates in Bristol last month.
The 25-year-old's body was found on a rural laneway on Christmas Day, sparking a huge police operation.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones said: 'I would like to thank the public for their continued support for the investigation and the information they have provided to us.'
A police investigation was launched when Ms Yeates's boyfriend Greg Reardon, 27, reported her missing after he returned to Bristol on December 19 following a weekend away visiting family.
Ms Yeates was not seen again until her body was found on 25 December.
Police have said there was no evidence she had been sexually assaulted but they have not ruled out a sexual motive.
Her landlord Chris Jefferies, 65, was held for three days for questioning on suspicion of murder before being released on bail.
Today's breakthrough came a day after police revealed that more than 300 people had contacted detectives investigating the murder in the 24 hours after a reconstruction of Ms Yeates's final movements was filmed.
The landscape architect's last journey, which started after she left work on 17 December, was retraced by an actress for the BBC's Crimewatch.
The reconstruction focused on what she did after she left her office in Bristol city centre.

Hmm l see it's another neighbour, he might have known Jo was alone (if he'd seen her boyfriend leaving after talking about going away).
It was also mentioned on the other board that DNA evidence was found on Jo's body.

Hi Margaret,
I read recently that there was no evidence of sexual activity on Jo"s body and there was no evidence of the Pizza having been eaten. I should have had a
bet on with Marky because I said right at the beginning it was someone Jo knew. Just supposing she bumped into him on her way home and he was
waiting outside the Off licence while she bought the Beer. They went back to Jo"s Flat , the guy made sexual advances, jo rejected him and was strangled.
He goes back to where his car is parked, drives onto Jo"s parking space and bundles her into the car, taking the unopened Pizza with him for disposal
en route.

I think that if calls to his employer were being referred to the police, he's the suspect.
Re: MAN ARRESTED IN JO YEATES MURDER
I just hope it is not another false alarm for Jo"s parents sake. It appears this guy became a suspect in reponse to the reconstruction, the police
received 300 calls. Sometimes I think Bristol Police have been too Media friendly and what an embarassment if this supect too is proved innocent.

Exactly !!!! This Guy , wherever he works will be sujected to all the gossip from his workmates, the worry for his Family and girlfriend etc. If he too proves
to be innocent I wouldn"t be surprised if Scotland Yard take over. It"s a bit like Leicester Police , a small Station having to cope with the disappearance
of Madeleiene., not on such a scale though.

This is interesting, apparently Jo Yeates USED to live next door to Tabak, do we know the full address she and her boyfriend shared.?

Joanna Yeates: Vincent Tabak’s Beanpole Surprise (Photos)
JOANNA Yeates: Vincent Tabak is the man in the news. He’s been arrested. He lives at Flat 2 44 Canynge Road, Clifton, Bristol. Joanna Yeates used to live in a property in the same building. She lived at Flat 1. Mr Tabak has lived has the property since 2009.
Police have not named Mr Tabak as a suspect. They did not afford Chris Jefferies the same courtesy. Back then, the Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, warned newspaper editors about the dangers of publishing “irrelevant or improper material”. The newspapers went to town on Mr Jefferies, giving him The Full Murat.
Will the press treat Mr Tabak with some respect and news of his apparent arrest with circumspection? His Facebook photo remain a gift to armchair sleuths. But will he be monstered?
The Sun is ever informative:
One colleague at consultant engineers Buro Happold in Bath said: “He is everything you expect from a Dutch bloke.”
Cloggs? Bag of weed? Good use of the ball?
“He’s quiet, very laid-back and from what I know has a good sense of humour. He never seems to be flustered and is very polite. Vincent is an incredibly intelligent man. He was popular. and never struck me as the sort of person who had enemies.”
Good news for the Dutch, there. Not all Dutchmen are like Geert Wilders, Mohammed Bouyeri or Nigel de Jong.
One after one people who know Mr Tabak arrive to say that he is a likeable, intelligent and decent bloke.
Was he around when the search for the killer was at its apogee?
The Daily Mail has been told that he left Britain for Holland to spend Christmas with his family two days after the landscape architect was last seen alive.
Anything more? Yes, the Telegraph tells us:
Joanna Yeates murder: a quiet, lonely Dutchman who came to life after finding love
Anything else? The Mail says he’s a “lanky and talented Dutchman”.
Oh yes…
To his former neighbours in Bath, Somerset, 32-year-old Mr Tabak – who is 6ft 4in tall – was known as a ‘mild-mannered beanpole’.
Go on…
Indeed, on the street where the sailing enthusiast lived until 18 months ago, news of yesterday morning’s arrest was met with astonishment.
Sailing enthusiast, eh…
Says someone who knows him:
“He was a very nice and considerate young man. We were sad when he left. He was very personable and polite.”
What about his blonde lover?
Miss Morson, works as a treasury analyst for Dyson in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. Her father, Geoffrey, declined to discuss developments yesterday at the £1million detached home in one of the most exclusive roads in Cambridge.
Alright for some, eh.
The Canadian citizen, who has worked in the U.S. as a lawyer, said: ‘I don’t know anything. I don’t know the young woman who was reported to be murdered, although I am very sorry about what happened to her.
Any word from them?
Tanja’s mother, Elisabeth, expressed concern at his welfare, saying: “We saw what happened to the landlord and don’t want to see that happen to our lovely Vincent.”
A man is helping the police with their inquiries. Mr Tabak has not been charged with any crime. Mr Chris Jefferies is on police bail. He denies any involvement in the death of Joanna Yeates.

Re: MAN ARRESTED IN JO YEATES MURDER
Graham Fitzgerald, Sky News Online ....Latest News 22/1/11
Police have until tonight to continue questioning a 32-year-old man suspected of murdering landscape architect Joanna Yeates.
Vincent Tabak was detained in the early hours of Thursday after police investigating the 25-year-old's death uncovered fresh evidence.
Following the arrest, specialist search teams moved into the flat neighbouring Miss Yeates' at 44 Canynge Road, Clifton, Bristol.
Dutch engineer Mr Tabak is registered as living at the address with his girlfriend Tanja Morson.
Workers have erected scaffolding and a 12ft high green tarpaulin at the rear of the Victorian property.
The screen covers the entrance to Flat 1 - Mr Tabak's - and the rear of the apartment Miss yeates shared with her boyfriend, Greg Reardon, 27.
Forensic examinations are continuing in Canynge Road and at a terrace property about a mile away in Aberdeen Road, Cotham, where it is believed Mr Tabak was arrested.
How Events Have Unfolded:
:: Dec 17: Joanna leaves the Ram pub at 8pm to walk home.
:: Dec 20: Police make first appeal over Joanna's disappearance.
:: Dec 26: Police confirm a body found on Christmas Day is that of Joanna.
:: Full timeline of events.
Police officers were seen at the offices of his employer, international engineering consultancy Buro Happold, in Lower Bristol Road, Bath.
The firm, and several colleagues, referred all inquiries to Avon and Somerset Police, although the force has not named the man in custody.
Mr Tabak completed a PhD several years ago at Eindhoven University of Technology.
He speaks three languages and is an expert in the flow of people through buildings, including sports venues.
It is thought he had just returned to Britain from a holiday when he was arrested and spent Christmas in the Netherlands with his family.
Joanna Yeates Murder
See all the key locations in the case
Miss Yeates disappeared on Friday December 17 after going for Christmas drinks with colleagues at her architectural firm.
Mr Reardon reported her missing after he returned to Bristol on December 19 following a weekend away visiting family in Sheffield.
A huge police operation swung into action after her frozen body was found dumped in a lane on the outskirts of Bristol on Christmas Day. She had been strangled.
Miss Yeates's father has welcomed the latest development, which comes almost five weeks after she disappeared.
Speaking at the family home in Ampfield, Hampshire, David Yeates, 63, said he was "pleased" the police investigation appeared to be "moving forward".

Hi wjk,
Maybe, but 12 ft. ?????? Actually I think Bristol Police should never have mentioned this suspect until they were sure they had a case, especially
after the Jefferies debacle. We"ll just have to see if he is released without charge.

Right, listening to music at the mo but will turn the T.V. on, probably Sky will be first and if Tabak is released I wouldn"t be surprised if Scotland
Yard take over the investigation, Bristol is a small Police Station and have been too Media Friendly. Catch you later.

Yes, he obviously likes Blondes. Let"s get this right, according to other reports, Tabak USED to live next door to Jo, but moved out a Year ago to
live with his girlfriend. Also, I seem to remember reading that Jo and he boyfriend hadn"t lived in that Flat very long, didn"t he say that and that they
were making a new start.?

I read the flat a mile away belonged to a friend, he lived with his girlfriend next door to Jo, and at the time Jo disappeared he was still living there.
