SOLDIER ACCUSED OF GIVING INFORMATION TO WIKILEAKS FACING MORE CHARGES
The soldier accused of leaking sensitive US government documents to the Wikileaks website is facing 22 new charges.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is facing charges of his own in Sweden
Bradley Manning is currently being held at a Marine base in Virginia while authorities investigate how State Department cables and military documents came to be published online.
The US military says the former intelligence analyst is now accused of "wrongfully causing intelligence to be published on the internet" and "aiding the enemy", which is a capital offence under military law.
The military has said it will not be seeking the death penalty. However, the 23-year-old could face a life sentence, a reduction in rank and a dishonourable discharge.
Wikileaks described the new charges as "a vindictive attack" on Manning.
Army officials said he is now accused of using unauthorised software to extract classified information, download and transmit it.
Private Manning has received support online
Private Manning's trial has been delayed while a panel assesses his mental state. If he is found fit to face trial, proceedings could begin by June.
He already faces a series of charges relating to the leaking of classified material including a video of a helicopter attack in Baghdad which killed 12 people.
The Wikileaks site published a series of documents which revealed sensitive diplomatic communications from American embassies.
World leaders condemned the publications with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton describing them as an "attack on the international community."
The website's founder Julian Assange is facing extradition to Sweden where he's wanted on sexual assault charges.

Morning TFG, yes, that Soldier will be given life imprisonment I"m sure. I remember when all this broke, ordinary American Citizens were interviewed
and without exception they all said Assange should face the death penalty for jeopardising the security of America. It doesn"t look too good for him
I don"t think he will win an appeal, partly because of the "special relationship" between Britain and the U.S.
