Re: Olympics and Paralympics 2012 (and now the legacy-part one)
I have just watched the Womens cycle road race and how they manage to pump their legs through 140km up and down hills in the rain at that speed is surely not Human ! I get tyred riding my bike down to the shops and thats about 140 yards !
And anyone who keeps on about the Olympics not being popular could have done with watching that to see the crowds lining the whole of that route from start to finish.
Well done to Lizzie Armitstead for the GB first medal.
Hope the swimming goes well tonight.
I can't really get excited about the GB team football not sure what to sing and too many Welsh players in the team who dont know the words to the 'National Anthem' they need to get back down the mines.

No need for racism Lioned, the truth is the Premier division bought so many Foreign players, they can't raise an all English team.

Well, apart from the ticket fiasco, everything has gone smoothly , it's very sunny here today so hopefully the weather in London will improve.

not being racist just making statement of fact as Wales never been any good at football as they have never qualified for anything and so have no experience of these tournaments. They are good at rugby and singing and digging coal and also looking after sheep so legend has it,i do like Bellamy though and not a lot of people will admit to that .Panda wrote:Lioned wrote:I have just watched the Womens cycle road race and how they manage to pump their legs through 140km up and down hills in the rain at that speed is surely not Human ! It is interesting though that Scotland refused to take part in the GB football team, one reason muted for that being a lack of 'good enough' Scottish players they being another Nation that consistently fails to qualify for major tournaments.

There are no longer any 'indigenous' people in a multi cultural society.I have heard many commentators argue that as being racist.AnnaEsse wrote:Lioned wrote:not being racist just making statement of fact as Wales never been any good at football as they have never qualified for anything and so have no experience of these tournaments. Oh dear! Being a country with a temperate climate, you'd, well I'd, suppose the indigenous people to be Caucasian.

Going a bit off topic as you will hopefully have noticed my tounge was a little stuck in cheek. That said it would be fair to say that along with the Scots and remnants of Cornish the Welsh could genuinely lay claim to being 'indigenous' British having legged it from the Roman invasion, after which it was a bit of a free for all with the Anglo Saxons.

I don't know about the Welsh, but the Romans did build a wall to keep out those ferocious Scots!

Re: Olympics and Paralympics 2012 (and now the legacy-part one)
Many football fans attending Team GB's match against the United Arab Emirates at Wembley were left hungry and thirsty after tills stopped accepting card payments.
Spectators were told that they could not use Visa - the only credit or debit cards permitted because of their status as an official partner of the Olympics - and must use cash.
A Visa spokesperson said: "We understand that Wembley's systems failed and therefore they were only accepting cash at the food and beverage kiosks.
"This cash only decision was made by Wembley management and not Visa. We are working with the Wembley team to help them fix this as soon as possible."
London 2012 organisers Locog also confirmed the problem, which came as police confirmed they had lost a set of keys while carrying out a security check before the Games.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan police said: "On the morning of Tuesday 24 July officers on Olympic police operations at Wembley stadium reported that internal security keys, being used by them as part of searches, were missing."
For more news on the Olympic Games, visit our London 2012 page.
Games organisers said that the relevant locks had since been changed and security had not been compromised.
Tens of thousands of people were at Wembley to see them secure a 3-1 win over the UAE, with goals from Ryan Giggs, Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge. Earlier at the stadium, Uruguay had lost 2-0 to Senegal.
Max Gore, 27, from Shepherd's Bush, west London, said: "The queues were ridiculous.
"I asked the person behind the bar if there were any cash machines and they said some had been taken out for the Olympics.
"I had to trek around the stadium to find one."
Mr Gore added: "The problem went on for the whole evening. There were two games and they couldn't get it fixed."
Ahead of the Games, Visa requested that a number of cash machines at Olympic venues that worked on the Link system which permits all credit and debit cards be removed and replaced with ones that could only be used by Visa customers.
The UK Payments Council said 27 dispensers had been replaced with just eight Visa ATMs.

Re: Olympics and Paralympics 2012 (and now the legacy-part one)
By Tom Parmenter, Sky News Correspondent
Olympics organisers have released 3,000 tickets for the public after speaking to accredited people not using the seats.
Areas reserved for sports officials at the Olympics will be also be made smaller to free up more tickets.
Rows of empty seats at London 2012 venues have infuriated sports fans who have been desperately trying to get Olympics tickets.
Throughout the opening days of competition whole blocks of seats have been left unused at venues including the Aquatics Centre and gymnastics arena.
Thousands have turned to the official tickets website to see if they can fill the gaps.
Lizzie Gentry from Harrogate told Sky News: "We've been trying almost hourly for the past week for any tickets (from £40 - £725) in the Olympic park. It's quite strange because it changes all the time.
"It would be far less frustrating and time consuming if on the first page it just said no tickets."
She added :"I just cannot understand why this seems to be so unorganised."
Many of the empty seats at venues have been reserved for the IOC officials, sponsors or media.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “In the first couple of days you have these bureaucrats who don’t turn up to the seats they are allocated, they don’t fill the zones where they could conceivably be.
“They aren’t tickets so to speak, it is just space that is allocated to accredited sports officials. The thing is going to be to reduce the space and put more tickets on the market, which they have already been doing.”
Organisers have said they will ask teachers and students to fill some of the gaps and along with service personnel during their down time.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called for the invitation to be extended to police officers.
"Given that many officers have not had family summer holidays for two years in a row it would be great to recognise their hard work by offering them and their families some of the extra tickets too."
Previous Olympics have been marred by similar problems in the early stages of competition.
This time though a spoof Twitter account called @olympicseat is offering a commentary on the situation.
So far it has nearly 10,000 followers enjoying updates such as: "Seven years I have been waiting for this moment. Seven long years, and for what?"

What a performance!!!! British Gymnasts have just won a Silver Medal , the first since 1912.Extraordinary scenes in the Arena Princes William and Harry arrived just in time to witness this, the crowd went wild. Japan are making a formal protest , their last gymnast fumbled on the horse and had to dismount, but landed cleanly. If the Judges did not give him a score for the dismount it alters the score. It could affect Ukraine which were in 3rd position . Japan given extra points which means they went up to Silver, Britain dropped to Bronze and Ukraine 4th.

I need to go shopping for my outfit for Saturday,i'm wondering what i should be wearing for the Beach Volleyball games.I am thinking i should be casual with some GB stuff but also if we get in to see the Queen later i want to look smart as well.
Going up to town early and then probably to Hyde Park to watch the big screens for a while and then maybe to Arrods or Selfridges to buy Mrs Lioned a present as its our Anniversary on Sunday.Dont want to spend too much as these damn tickets have cost me £loads and i dont have much left for pressies !

China's 16-year-old swimming star Ye Shiwen has denied taking performance-enhancing drugs after smashing a world record at the London Olympics.
She spoke out after a leading US coach described her performance in the 400m individual medley as "disturbing".
Ms Ye swam the 400m individual medley seconds faster than she ever had before and - on the last 50m - faster than the winner of the men's event.
There is no evidence against her and all medal winners are drug-tested.
On Monday, Ye Shiwen took at least five seconds off her personal best to break the world record by more than a second and win the gold medal in the individual medley.
In the last 50m she swam faster than US star Ryan Lochte in the men's event.
Commentators were stunned, including the BBC's Clare Balding who said questions would be asked about the swimmer's performance.
John Leonard, executive director of the World Swimming Coaches Association, said her performance was "unbelievable" and "disturbing".
However, Arne Ljungqvist, medical commission chairman for the International Olympic Committee, called the speculation "sad".
"To raise suspicion immediately when you see an extraordinary performance - to me it is against the fascination of sport," he said.
When asked about the suspicions, Ye Shiwen told reporters: "My results come from hard work and training and I would never use any banned drugs. The Chinese people have clean hands."
Chinese swimming team leader Xu Qi said that Ms Ye's result had been expected, China's Xinhua news agency reported.
"To compare Ye's result with Lochte's is meaningless," he said.
"Ye was behind after 300m and she needed to try her best to win the race, but Lochte had already established the lead before the freestyle and didn't need to do his upmost."
All medal winners at the Olympics are automatically drug-tested. In addition, any athlete whose performance is far better than anything they have achieved before can be targeted for extra tests.
What do you think of China's 16-year-old swimming star Ye Shiwen's achievements so far? Who is your favourite Olympian? Have you met any of the athletes? What are your Olympic experiences?

Apparently a nasty twitter about Tom Daley referred to his Dad who died last year but the twitter has been traced to a Guest House in Weymouth,
a 17yr old.......I bet he didn't think he would get caught!!!! Twitter is becoming a venue for the more extreme and insulting tweets and the U.S. has
previously voiced concern about this.

Well, I had a sneaky regard for Boris, but not now.!!!!!! He is obviously trying to curry favour , hoping to make Cameron
squirm , but this won't make him popular with tory backbenchers or the public.....bad move Boris.
