PM's Madeleine McCann U-Turn

We've seen some abrupt U-turns by this Prime Minister. But David Cameron's about turn on Madeleine McCann has been particularly swift.
When I reported Kate and Gerry McCann's letter to the PM in the Sun just after 10pm last night, the word from inside No. 10 was that the search for Madeleine was "a matter for the Portuguese authorities".
But by 3.45pm this afternoon, the tone from No. 10 had changed. The PM's spokesman told me: ""We are considering what they have said and will see if there's anything more we can do. We want to help."
Now Scotland Yard's top detectives are to be brought in.
A swift victory for the McCanns!
To be fair, the Prime Minister has written a very sensitive and sympathetic letter to Kate and Gerry.
"Thank you for your heartfelt and moving letter," he writes. "Your ordeal is every parent's worst nightmare and my heart goes out to you both.
"I simply cannot impagine the pain you must have experienced over these four agonising years and the strength and determination you have both shown thoroughout is remarkable.
"I am acutely aware of the frustration you must feel as more time goes by and yet no news is forthcoming.
"We discussed this when we met, but I realise that a further 18 months have gone by since then. That you have been so courageous over all this time and have not given up speaks volumes."
The PM tells the McCanns he hopes this fresh approach will provide the investigation with the new momentum it needs.
So what happened during the 24 hours between the McCanns' letter appearing in the Sun and the latest Prime Ministerial U-turn?
Well, it's not a U-turn, members of the Prime Minister's inner circle insist.
"The PM and the Home Secretary didn't meet today," a senior No. 10 insider tells me. "But it's something he feels strongly about, as does Theresa."
Other Tory insiders who know the PM well tell me he feels strongly for the McCanns because his own children are roughly the same age as Kate and Gerry's.
And of course, as friends of the Prime Minister point out, he knows what it's like to lose a child.

Annabel
Thank you for putting up this article.
Eh....err..... Eh......Eh
So David Cameron hasn't offered a re-investigation. I'm lost or I am losing it!
I do have a bicycle that I don't ride anymore - it's all rusted now but I bet if I tried it would go backwards.

Re: PM's Madeleine McCann U-Turn
If I were McCanns I wouldn't open the champagne on this victory just yet. I'd be concerned the Yard's top detectives would be interested in the death in 5A angle.
No one apart from McCanns themselves saw their daughter after 530 apart from supposedly Payne at 6ish. That leaves 4- 4.5 hours to have an "accident," clean up a small crime scene, and hide a body in the wardrobe or elsewhere further afield in a missing tennis bag when it got dark. Arrive at the bar in time to start planting suspicion in people's minds by discussing whether it was safe to leave the kids with the doors unlocked for the first time. Mentinoing that MM bizarrely had asked where they were the night before and not mentioning that she had been bawling loud enough to disturb neighbors the night before THAT. Asking a friend to check for the first time visually in the apt instead of listening outside a window at 930- only fifteen minutes after Gerry had just checked on the kids. the time between Gerry's check and Matt's would have been 15 minutes only, narrowing the neglect to 15 minutes: perfect, they were hardly negligent at all.
And since Matt found windows shut and shutters DOWN at 930 it also narrows that time as well to the time after Gerry checked at 910 when they were down, and Jane saw the abductor at 915 or 920. then the guy nips BACK in to close the shutter so Matt can see them down at 930 then nips back in before ten so Kate can find them open??
Matt found the room "a little more light" than he expected - what a feeble way to suggest that the shutters were actually open at 930. Did a big wind spring up in the half hour? So it could sudddenly blow the curtains in JUST when Kate was peeking in? And then another big wind came along to tuck the curtains back down to trap them behind the bed for the police to photograph? rather than leaving them on top of the bed? Did the abductor's footprints in the dirt below the window erase themselves? Maybe the wind blew them away and blew his fingerprints off the windows. I guess that wind also made madeleine's bed. Maybe it sucked the abductor out the window without him having to touch the ground.
I wonder what they'll make of Gerry rushing outside to mess around with the shutters that an abductor had supposedly opened from the outside giving G&K the "horrifying realization" that they could be opened from outside. Since they knew Maddie didn't open them the abductor must have done, they were already suspecting this - but chose to touch and move them. I wonder what SY will make of the call to their parents stating the shutters had been jemmied and broken for someone to get in and steal Madeleine with absolutely no sign that anyone had been outside the window, and no one but Kate touched the window, and the liichen and dust on the sill was undisturbed.
Ask the dogs I guess.
Sure it would be difficult to get the body out and keep it hidden, but if the alternative is the horrifying blinding end of your world and everything you live for and worked for you might have little choice. If there was work done by geo forensics they might have some idea of the many places near by where Madeleine's body could have been hidden.
Oh - I wonder if they'll ask for Kate's job history records to veryify the "6 corpses" she officiated at the month before holiday that contaminated her holiday pants, daughter's toy, and none of her other clothing? Oh and the car key which was buried in sand yet the dog still found it by the smell... really hard to explain how your cadaver visits could transfer via your fingers to one object out of the hundreds you had touched during the holiday.
