A former colleague of convicted murderer Malcolm Webster has been spoken to by police over concerns about the deaths of three children.

Malcolm Webster was found guilty last month of murdering Claire Morris in an Aberdeenshire car crash in 1994, and attempting to murder his second wife.

Elizabeth Brown then came forward with concerns over the deaths of three children at a hospital in Abu Dhabi.

Grampian Police said inquiries were continuing.

Webster - who is awaiting sentence - worked at a hospital in Abu Dhabi in the 1980s.

After seeing coverage of the trial his former nursing colleague raised concerns over the deaths of three child patients at the hospital at that time.

Former nurse Webster, 52, of Guildford, Surrey, was found guilty of trying to murder his second wife in New Zealand in 1999, after a long-running trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 1994 fatal crash and fire, which was originally treated as an accident, was reinvestigated after concerns were raised in the wake of the second murder attempt.

Fresh tests showed first wife Ms Morris, 32, originally from Upchurch, Kent, had traces of drugs in her system.

Webster had claimed he swerved to avoid a motorcyclist.

The couple had only been married for eight months.

Webster was also found guilty of intending to bigamously marry another woman, Simone Banarjee, from Oban, Argyll, to gain access to her estate, while pretending he had leukaemia.

He is due to be sentenced on 5 July.

Scotland's longest-lasting single accused criminal trial had begun on 1 February.

Uris

There are some very disturbed people in our society and I cannot fathom out what it is that drives these people to do what they do. From the sound of the bigamy incident it looks like money was the driver.
