Police are investigating the indecent assault of a teenage girl in Sydney’s south-west. The 16-year-old Busby girl was walking south along Wilson Road, Hinchinbrook, about 8.30am yesterday (Tuesday 19 July 2011), when she noticed an unknown man following her. A short time later, the man rushed up behind the girl and grabbed her skirt. It’s believed he was trying to take a photograph of her underwear using a mobile phone. The victim and her twin sister, who was walking alongside her, pushed the offender away. The pair reported the incident to their principal upon arrival at school. Police from Green Valley Local Area Command attended the school and commenced inquiries. Officers conducted a canvass of the surrounding area for potential witnesses to the incident. Investigations are ongoing and police are appealing for public help to identify and locate the offender. The man’s been described as being aged in his late teens, of Asian appearance, 170cm tall with a skinny build, short brown hair and acne. He was wearing a black hooded jumper with blue trim and black tracksuit pants at the time of the incident. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that might assist investigating officers is urged to contact Green Valley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, the incident has again prompted police to encourage parents to reinforce the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages with their children, including:

• Avoid walking on your own and instead walk with other family members, friends or an adult you know;
• Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people;
• Make sure your parents or another adult you know knows where you are at all times;
• Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking to;
• Know where safe places are – a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call the police;
• Learn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help – police officers, teachers at school, adults you know and trust;
• Don’t talk to people you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know. If a car stops on the side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop; and
• If you are scared, call Triple Zero (000) and tell them you are scared.

NSW: Turramurra Man exposed himself to 11 year old school girl

Wednesday, 20 July 2011 12:56:46 PM

Police on Sydney’s North Shore are seeking public help to locate a man who performed a lewd act at local library. An 11-year-old girl was sitting at a desk within a library on Ray Street, Turramurra, just after 3.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 19... July 2011), when an unknown man sat down opposite her. After about an hour, the girl left her desk to go to the bathroom. She returned a short time later to discover the man exposing himself. The schoolgirl was picked up from the library by her mother about 5.30pm; however, she did not disclose what had occurred until they were on their way home. The girl’s mother contacted library staff before alerting police from Kuring-Gai Local Area Command. Police attended the girl’s Hornsby home and spoke with her about the incident. A number of items were seized for forensic examination. Investigations into the incident are continuing today and public assistance is being sought to identify and locate the man. The man’s been described as being aged in his mid 20s to early 30s with a large build and dark-coloured hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a Billabong T-shirt and tracksuit pants – which had a large hole in the upper thigh area. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that might assist investigating officers is urged to contact Hornsby Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
