Toddler dies in cot mattress horror

..A toddler has died in an accident involving a cot mattress.
Harrison Upton, two, was believed to have been trying to get out of his cot when he somehow became trapped by the mattress and was asphyxiated.
His parents, both aged 24, from Barnoldswick, Lancashire, were at first arrested on suspicion of murder but they were released without charge by police, who described the death as a tragic accident.
Exactly how the incident occurred is still unclear. Police say they are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances and the matter will now be dealt with at an inquest to establish the full facts.
Officers were first called by the ambulance service at around 9.30am on Sunday after paramedics were called to the family home.
Police at first treated the boy's death as unexplained and arrested his parents on suspicion of murder and child cruelty while they investigated the circumstances.
However, a post-mortem examination has now revealed Harrison died of asphyxiation and there are no suspicious circumstances.
Police said the boy's parents have been "completely exonerated" from any involvement in their son's death.
Local reports describe the couple as a "nice, happy family" who have another son, four-year-old Caleb.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Detectives wish to pass on their sympathies and condolences to Harrison's parents, as well as his wider family."

Re: Toddler dies in cot mattress horror
Thanks wjk, it's difficult to know where to post some things, but it was news so I put it here. It just goes to show just what can happen to small children, even when the parents are in the house. Some years ago friends of ours went in their babies room to check why baby was crying and found that the baby had somehow or other got his head stuck between the cot bars! Fortunately they were both in and mum kept baby calm whilst dad somehow removed a bar. There are so very many dangers for small children, even family present.
