THE FAMILY of missing Wexford woman Fiona Sinnott hope to have a plaque to her memory permanently erected within the next week.

The original memorial was stolen from the wall in the old cemetery in Our Lady's Island the night before the unveiling ceremony. The plaque had been cemented to the wall by Fiona's Uncle, Jim Sinnott, who discovered it was missing when he returned to the cemetery on the morning of Saturday, September 13, the day of the unveiling.

A replacement plaque was hurriedly made that morning for the unveiling ceremony that afternoon.

However, the plaque has yet to become a permanent fixture, as the family took it home following the ceremony, to decide how to make it theft proof on the wall.

The Sinnott family was deeply upset at the theft of the plaque but are now moving to have it erected as a permanent fixture on the old cemetery wall in the village where Fiona was last seen.

Fiona's Uncle, Johnny Sinnott, this week said they hope to have the plaque placed permanently on the wall within the next week.

'People have been visiting the area since the ceremony. Many believe that the replacement plaque had also been stolen having contacted the family.

'At the moment we are looking into having a computer chip placed on the replacement plaque which would enable Gardai to locate it should it be stolen again.

'We are determined to have the plaque given a permanent home on the wall in Fiona's memory,' said Johnny.

Fiona would have celebrated her 30th birthday the week of the unveiling ceremony. Gardai are continuing their investigation into the theft of the marble plaque which has yet to be located.
