Two British tourists have been charged with child abandonment after they allegedly left their two children, aged 10 and 12, alone in a tourist complex at San Miguel de Abona, on the south of Tenerife where they were on holiday.
They are accused of leaving the children to they could take a trip to the Playa de las Américas, and while they were away the younger girl broke her leg in the swimming pool and was saved by other tourists who happened to be there at the time.
The tourist complex got into touch immediately with the Local Police to inform them what has happened and in an attempt to localise the parents. Shortly after the mother arrived to take her daughter to a health centre, but Spanish TV RTVE reports that the father refused to abandon the excursion.
There are reports that father presented himself at the Arona local police station and the Guardia Civil has been informed, while latest reports indicate the family has left the island.
