A MOTHER tricked her young son into thinking he had cancer so she could fiddle £100,000 in benefits, a court heard yesterday.
She allegedly shaved the lad's head and eyebrows and made him wear a bandana to school so it appeared he was having chemotherapy.
The son, now nine, faced the ordeal for three years from when he was four, it was said.
His mother, 36, is also said to have claimed his seven-year-old sister was suffering from a serious illness from the ages of three to six.
Magistrates were told she prevented her children from taking part in school activities to keep up the pretence.
The mother, who cannot be named, allegedly milked the system for seven years — forging doctors' notes while collecting a carer's allowance, tax exemptions and disability benefits.
Prosecutor Peter Ashby told the Gloucester court: "She forged documents not only from doctors but also from the schools and others to support these claims.
"She informed a large number of schools and medical staff and authorities that her children were substantially ill.
"She had her son believe he was suffering from cancer.
"The children were not able to take part in school activities because of the pressure she put them under. This is said to be an organised and prolonged fraud. The overall gain was just under £100,000." The Gloucestershire woman, who has a partner and three other children under 15, faces 11 charges of fraud, four of forgery and two of neglect.
The case follows a probe by police and the Department for Work and Pensions.
The mother entered no plea and was given unconditional bail. She is due in court again on December 2.
How cruel and evil is that!!
