Man Caught On CCTV Swinging Cat By Its Tail

The man continued swinging the cat as he walked down the road
The RSPCA has urged the public to help identify a man caught on CCTV swinging a cat by its tail.
The animal attacker appears to dance down a road in Ramsgate, Kent, with the black cat at arm's length in scenes of abuse that last for more than 30 seconds.
At one point a man thought to be an accomplice is struck by the spinning two-year-old cat, whose name is Mowgli.
RSPCA Inspector Caroline Doe said: "This was a very violent, nasty attack on a cat.
"Anyone who witnessed this outside the pub must have been as shocked and appalled as we were. We are hoping that someone will recognise this man and come forward so we can investigate this fully."
Owner Michelle Buchanan, an IT teacher from Ramsgate, said: "It's horrific. I can't believe anyone would do something that cruel."
"Mowgli is emotional. He's just distraught. He won't go out the door."
The cat escaped the attack outside the Camden Arms pub, on October 29 at 8.30pm, without physical injury.
But Ms Buchanan, who lives alone with her two other cats Missy and Milly, believes the incident has affected him.
"When I got home he was in my bed so that he would feel secure.
"Now he'll go as far as the door and turn back. He used to be outside constantly. He'd be scratching at the window."
Her other pets have been affected by the attack too, she said.
"Before this happened my cats used to sit outside the house on the steps and everybody knew them. Since then none of them do that."
The assault echoes an incident in August 2010 when bank worker Mary Bale gained worldwide infamy after she threw a cat into a bin outside its owners' home in Coventry.
Bale received abusive phone calls and death threats from as far away as Australia, after what she called a "split second of misjudgement" was caught on CCTV and uploaded to YouTube.
She was fined £250 and also ordered to pay a victim surcharge and costs, totalling £1,436. The RSPCA described it as "a very fair decision".

Re: Man Caught On CCTV Swinging Cat By Its Tail
I do hope that someone recognises this yob, I won't call him a man because he obviously is nothing more than an ill brought up yob. Unfortunately even if he is caught he will get a small fine, a telling off and he'll walk from the court laughing and ready to do it again.

I think the yob will be recognisable and I wouldn't be surprised if he is identified today. The report states that the cat wasn't injured, but being swung by the tail must cause significant bruising and stress to the spine.
These yobs who find such behaviour funny are despicable. How brave is it to pick up a little cat and abuse it in that way? It's downright cowardly. He wouldn't pick on someone who was much bigger than himself: it has to be a creature much smaller. Bastid!

If one day I happen to bump into someone doing what that effing bastweard did, I'm pretty sure I'll end up in the nearest Police station. As the accused, of course.

So, he went into hiding and then decided to hand himself in!!! A wise decision because he would have been identifiable by people in the area who knew him and I guess he didn't want to spend a few years in hiding! Now I hope he is charged and has to go back into hiding to avoid those people who would like to swing him around a bit!
Riain Richards, named locally as the man who handed himself in to police
A man who handed himself in to police after CCTV footage emerged of a cat being swung by its tail has been named locally as Riain Richards.
A statement by the RSPCA says the 20-year-old, from Ramsgate, Kent, voluntarily handed himself into Margate police station and has been helping with enquiries.
It said: "We would like to thank the media and the public for their help in our appeal following this incident involving a cat being swung by his tail."
The charity has said the suspect may be charged under the Animal Welfare Act. If convicted, he faces a possible jail sentence of up to 51 weeks and a fine of up to £20,000.
Footage of the incident showed a man appearing to dance down a road in Ramsgate while swinging the animal around by its tail for around 30 seconds.
It prompted widespread outrage and an appeal for information about the abuse of the cat - called Mowgli - from the RSPCA.
Owner Michelle Buchanan, an IT teacher, said of the attack: "It's horrific. I can't believe anyone would do something that cruel.
"Mowgli is emotional. He's just distraught. He won't go out the door."
