I got a lump !

On the end of my thumb.Between the joint and base of the nail.Its hard and about the size of a grape,just come up all of a sudden,havn't hurt it with anything ? Seems to be getting bigger as well. Should i wack it with a book like Doc Martin or what ?

I think it might be a 'ganglion' whatever that is ? ( saw it on the telly).
