Two family pets were the heroes of the night when they saved their owners from a fire in their home in Alhendín, on the outskirts of Granada, last week.
The fire was caused by a short circuit and broke out while the family of eight and their two dogs, Nala, a Chihuahua, and Simba, a Shar Pei, were all sleeping on Wednesday night last week. The grandmother was asleep downstairs with two of her grandchildren and the rest of the family was upstairs.
Canal Sur reports that the two pets shared out the work of waking up the family one by one. One stayed downstairs and the other ran up above, both barking non-stop until they managed to rouse their owners. The five adults and three children all escaped unhurt, although Simba had to be treated for smoke inhalation. He is now on the road to recovery.

Re: Heroic pets save family from Granada fire
Thank you for posting the picture Anna, I'm useless at posting pics from articles, even more so at the minute with only one good arm
simba does indeed mean lion and elephant is tembo but I never heard a local refer to a tembo, always a jumbo, even in news reports elephants are referred to as jumbos, it has never failed to amuse me.
