The oil dollar keeps it propped up.
The most important reason for going into Iraq was the fact that Saddam was going to accept euros for his oil.
Libya was going to issue a gold-based dinar... and so on.
US has tried to sabotage the Euro from the start, they cannot allow another world wide currency.
Greece lied to get in, the Euro administration was flawed from the start if they don't check the books.
Retirement age in Germany is 67-69, Greece 55, so why not let Greece go bust and grow olives and tomatoes?
Initially British Farmers too had it v.v. good. Not so now.
Best thing each country can do now is to grow as much of their own food as they can.
I agree Pooh, trade and travel should have been all, open borders, not so much.
Except for me of course, being an Anglophile.
Morning Tigger, I agree with all you have said and it may yet happen. Russia has argued for Years that the price of Oil should not be tied to the Dollar
and are in a strong position with their Gas and Oil Reserves and the Middle East Crisis to force a change.
I thought it was disgraceful that Britain was forced to stop growing on some Farmland because there was a glut and instead the Farmers were paid
to keep their fields Fallow. Remember the "straight Bananas " directive? I think it"s something like 67% of our Laws come from the EU. If Britain
had been given a Referendum as promised by Tony Blair all those years ago we would have voted to leave the Union.

The invasion of Iraq stirred up a Hornet"s nest in the Middle East and acheived nothing , after 10 years in Afghanistan with so many lives lost a losing
battle is being fought. The difference now is that there are more emerging Markets , America is in decline, as is Europe, so the shift of power will soon
take place. The Countries who produce the Oil and Gas will have the Power, China also , because of it"s cheap labour Market being able yp produce
cheap products.

Latest from their debt debate does not sound too good either, the US going down the pan could lead to all sorts of problems,

Morning pooh, Apparently this brinkmanship will be resolved because there is another two weeks grace beyond 2nd August, but whatever happens,
the Triple A rating of the U.S. will go down a notch. Go back to the Barter System I say.

Pooh time to make a sharp exit. Don"t think I would like to be so isolated. When I was there my Friends ex had a very young Malaysian girlfriend who he visited a few times ayear whose Parents lived up in ther Mountains and he was talking of starting up a Buffalo Farm there. He took us to Phuket, PIPPI Island, a Nature reserve etc, all the places devastated by the Tsunami a couple of years later. I gather you are back in the U.K. now I I

Yep back in the UK.
Actually never bothered me living there one bit.
But the local hospital there makes the NHS look 3rd world. have had to use it once left leg swole up, in and out in 30minutes, diagnosed including blood test result, given an injection 3 loads of tablets and a creme all for £25, would have paid the same in presription charges here. Cleared totaly in 2 days.
Oh it was gout.

Cyprus as well??? They might as well let these Countries leave the EU NOW instead of borrowing more money and having to pay high interest rates/ They reckon it will take Greece 30 yrs to pay off it"s debt.

MORNING POOH, STILL NO AGREEMENT WITH 4 DAYS TO GO !!!!!. Apparently there are a few days grace after that, but you have to wonder at the
intelligence of Political Parties that they cannot reach agreement on such a vital issue. In the meantime, there is a flight from the U.S. dollar to
Swiss Franc with the result that the Franc has become so expensive sales have dried up on Swiss Watches. It could be the Monetary system around
the World could collapse because it"s not investment anymore, it"s speculation.

Yes, this is all about Politics, not caring about one"s Country. Whatever happens now, the U.S. will lose it"s Triple A rating, It remains to be seen which
of the emerging Nations take over the dominant Currency. Russia has always complained that the price of Oil should not be in U.S. Dollars.

Yeah, but Gordon Brown sold half the U.K. Reserves when he became Chancellor, it is said that Fort Knox does not not have any Gold and if Germany
suddenly recalled the Gold they gave the U.S. to store just after the War God knows what would happen.

Is that true about Fort Knox ? I have been saying to my partner "what about fort Know". It seemed to me that they had plenty of collateral. But now you say "Fort Knox" is empty - have they borrowed over their limit!
