Kate seems to think she can interpret this behaviour better than the handler. Any dog owner knows that dogs will lift their heads when the catch the scent of something, (this, I think, is why they like to sleep with the muzzle part of their face turned upwards) - it doesn't mean the thing their scenting is located in that upward direction. Grimes brought Eddie back to the car he'd run past as Eddie clearly hadn't been round it properly, but was indicating he could scent something of interest. The result is there for all to see - Eddie was getting a scent from a small hole in the front passenger door seal.
On this video, watch from 6.00 where the dog handler explains why the cadaver dog has his nose in the air!

Very interesting yes. So the scent rises upwards and if it becomes trapped higher up, the dog will raise his head as he catches the smell and to someone who doesn't know what's going on, it appears that the dog is indicating that the scent is up high, whereas in fact it originates lower down.

Dont believe for one minute the scent was planted.
Who and why would anyone think of planting it in a flower bed ?
