Re: SKY/Breaking news
Almostgothic,
I agree. It's absurd and more over not professional at all. If SY really was sure that M. is alive with abductors, they wouldn't take the risk of frighten the "abductor" by saying publicy that. They would quietly cooperate with the PJ who, I am sure, is ready to follow news serious leads, even without the reopening of the case and without such publicity.

Re: SKY/Breaking news
I'm staggered and disgusted that the police are coming out with any statements at this stage at all. Imagine the slating they would get if they appeared on tv saying 'we believe there is a good chance the McCanns knew she had died and moved her body'......there would be uproar. But because of the fact that it appears at this stage the police are backing up the McCanns fairy tale, then it's all ok.
I have no confidence in our government, police, press or anyone these days!

They want to get the case re-opened and they are hardly going to say they think the parents were involved at this point are they? Let's keep it nice and friendly for now and get that case re-opened then do what needs doing. That is my take on it anyway.
I'm with you on this.
I agree aswell. Let's face it if SY came out today and said they think the parents are guilty and they want Portugal to reopen the case and charge them, the Mcs would have their bullyboy lawyers making sure they will never get to Portugal and if by some chance they do, they'll claim unfair trial because the media will rip them apart.
If the met really wanted a whitewash they'd say we agree it was an abduction, everything was followed up diligently but the abductor got away, possibly even blame Hewlett as the likely abductor.
And that scenario would put a stop to the review today - yet they are pushing it on so they must want a proper result.
And we still haven't had a statement from the Mcs backing the Mets call to have the case reopened.....

My daughter is Portuguese Algarvian to be precise, she has read the article is sitting next to me translating so bear with me!! In a nutshell:
Andy Redwood states that re-opening the case is the only way to find out what happened to her.
Allclues are being analysed by both the Yard and the Porto Homicide (the best) Detectives in child disapearances!
Redwood states he has had 7 visits to Potugal and TWO were on a SUPERIOR level and it appears he may have gone to the OC club as well and 4meetings with the Porto Detectives - it also states the Redwood has had REGULAR contact with Lord and Lady McCann, there is a mountain of information totally 40thousand clues all of which need to be TRANSLATED - thats why this process is taking longer. Around 25% has been analysed - AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.
There are two hypnosis: that Maddie is alive or dead (how obvious) but there is a chance she may be alive and that a expert had released the image of how she may look today!
Thats about it - pretty much the same as in the UK Media, not sure what to make of it! whitewash - I PRAY NOT!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ! How the hell can SY justify being in regular contact with the prime suspects ????????
Are SY really that unprofessional ???????? and naive ????? Listening to GM`s arrogant barking and KM`s angelic bleating will undoubtedly affect the Andy Redwood`s perspective. Absolutely criminal.

Missed it on Sky...
I have sky on in a small window in the corner of my computer screen all the time. Not five minutes ago there was a Sky report on which DCI Redwood was speaking about the McCann case. He is quite a small man with a very light voice. I had not seen him on TV before. Just as the report started I got a phone call from a friend who is obviously ill, and I had to find the GP's number for her, so I missed the report. Can anyone give me more details on here about this latest interview?

How can SY review this matter if they are not in regular contact with G & KM? Impossible I would say. No matter which way this review goes, SY have to have regular contact with G & KM. Just because they are not spoken to under caution does not mean SY should not speak to them at all, quite the opposite I would say.
As for saying MAYBE Madeleine is alive, it is a maybe, isn't it. Until we know what the evidence is I am not getting excited anytime soon. The only evidence I can think would convince anyone she is alive is her actually being found. SY are appealing for new witnesses to come forward. I know it is not impossible and that it would be of no surprise if someone new did come forward, but I still think it is a very long shot now to think that any new potential witnesses have been overlooked. I am sure they are referring to holidaymakers who returned home on or before Madeleine went missing, who may have something to add. However, if 5 years of media interest and court cases hasn't prompted anyone new to come forward, then will an appeal from SY succeed?

Re: SKY/Breaking news
In my opinion, this is possibly a way to end the whole thing, or because the police believe that there is evidence that shows something (but I doubt the police would want to say what that is).
I think it is diffuclt to imagine that the police could, 5 years after, find some clue that makes the suggestion that M. is alive. Surely the only evidence will be that they found her.
Maybe the police know that this is the only way to bring this to an end, to follow the investigation saying she might be alive, then to make a final end without any progress. There must be many more things that the police need to put their attention on.
PJ will not re-open the case when the parents refused to answer all questions. This is the key. If you were parents of a lost child, you would tell the police everything, absolutely everything, to help the police, even if it means you might get into trouble. Their first concern was protecting themselves, and this has never made sense, and will not make sense to the PJ.

Re: SKY/Breaking news
I do not know what to think now.
This morning I was positive. Having watched that clip on youtube topic with Redwood and discovering they are a quarter of the way through the files, I feel like throwing my hat at he whole thing.
What is the purpose in all of this ? If it has taken 12 months to go through a quarter, do we wait another three years for the remainder to be looked at ?
Are SY continuing the review or not, have they actually asked Portugal to re-open the case or not ?
I preferred it when the media didn't bother reporting anything on this case.
What is the purpose is Redwood speaking now ?

Damn I missed the main interview... probably it will be repeated...
Kay Burleigh has just given out a few general news headlines, and one of them was that Redwood and co believe there are 200 'leads' to be followed up in the McCann case. Surely we are not back to 'bungling Portuguese police' again, are we?

Police: Madeleine McCann May Still Be Alive
Sky News – 1 hour 31 minutes ago.
Scotland Yard has announced that missing Madeleine McCann may still be alive - as an artist's impression of what she may look like now is released.
The Metropolitan Police issued a statement about its conclusion after conducting an investigative review into the case.
The image released shows Madeleine as a nine-year-old, as the fifth anniversary of her disappearance approaches.
The police statement said: "As a result of evidence uncovered during the review they now believe there is a possibility Madeleine is still alive and are appealing for anyone who is able to provide direct information as to her whereabouts to contact the team."
Madeleine vanished on May 3, 2007 during a family holiday at a resort in Portugal's Praia da Luz.
A huge hunt was launched after she went missing while her parents Kate and Gerry dined with friends nearby but she has never been found.
Her parents, both doctors who live in Rothley, Leicestershire, have battled to retain the case's high profile.
The investigative review started in May 2011 under the leadership of the then commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson.
A murder team within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command conducted the review and the team worked in close collaboration with a senior investigating officer from Portugal's Policia Judaria.
"Throughout the course of the review officers have been in close contact with the McCann family who have been assigned a family liaison officer as is standard in accordance with national family liaison policy," Scotland Yard said.
"Officers are now methodically going through that material which they believe amounts to around 40,000 pieces of information equating to approximately 100,000 pages."
British detectives travelled to Portugal several times as part of the investigation.
"The intention is to identify from that material investigative opportunities which we will then present to the Portuguese authorities who retain primacy for the investigation," police said.
"Officers have so far identified around 195 such opportunities within the historic material, and are also developing what they believe to be genuinely new material."
Police added: "The second point of appeal today is in relation to those who were at the resort of Praia da Luz between April 28 and May 3, 2007.
"If you were either on holiday or in residence in the resort during this period, particularly in the vicinity of the Ocean Club, and you have not been spoken to by police either here or in Portugal then please call us on 0800 096 1011 if you are within the UK."

The more I think about it...
whitewash or not, the Panorama programme (half an hour long these days) may have been moved forward because there is 'more to come'... of whatever type, and the BBC, and possibly Scotland Yard, would like to keep the slot on 30th April for a second programme.
Or maybe not... How long does it take to put a programme together? Pure news programmes can be done at the drop of a hat, but complex comment programmes, especially those which must be done very carefully, if the situation is as delicate as with this case, would surely take much longer.

So Maddie is alive. Or dead. I could have told them that for a hell of a lot less than 2 million quid.
