Madeleine McCann and her parent's love that will never die
Seeing the picture of how Madeleine might look today brought home again the suffering of the McCanns, a mountain of unimaginable pain
FOR what seemed like the longest time, my daughter studied the computer-generated image of how Madeleine McCann might look today.
Madeleine would be nine years old – exactly the same age as our girl.
“Some people still think that Madeleine is alive, right?” said my daughter.
Right.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood of Scotland Yard says that his team of detectives has sifted through 40,000 pieces of information and have 195 leads that they plan to pursue.
“We genuinely believe there is a possibility that Madeleine is alive,” says DCI Redwood.
And that belief is shared by Kate and Gerry McCann. They still believe that their lost daughter is alive.
Without absolute proof to the contrary, how could any parent ever believe anything else?
Seeing the picture of how Madeleine might look today – that simple, poignant image of a smiling, pretty little girl with not a care in the world – brought home again the suffering of the McCanns, a mountain of unimaginable pain that we were in danger of forgetting.
Kate and Gerry McCann have endured so much over the last five years. what about maddies suffering????
The incompetence of the Portuguese police, the malicious whispers about their parental care and the humiliation – and maddening waste of time – of being made suspects in their daughter’s abduction. what about maddie????
But all these hurts and indignities are nothing, nothing at all, compared to the cruellest blow of all – the loss of the daughter they loved, and search for still. they would not have lost her if they had not been out drinking and getting into their friends
A child grows up in those precious five years. When Madeleine went missing, my daughter was, like her, a little girl.
Now, at nine, you can see the first stirrings of real, grown-up maturity. They grow so fast. The time goes so quickly.
To have lost my daughter when she was Madeleine’s age, to be robbed of watching her grow up, to live with the fact that I would never see her again – I would rather be dead.
But Madeleine is not lost for ever. Not yet.
What must keep Kate and Gerry McCann sane is the hope that Madeleine survives and may yet be restored to her family.
The McCanns deserve our support, sympathy and respect.
They are the embodiment of parental love – the unconditional, undying love that refuses to let go.
where was their love when maddie was crying for them

Where is that article from ?
The last few lines are an insult to parents everywhere. Every "article" written about those two annoys me but this one takes the biscuit.
I would like to write to the person who wrote this to let them know they do not deserve any of my support, sympathy or respect. I keep that for Madeleine.
Why would I support two parents who left their children alone, night after night.
Why would I have sympathy that they now wail in public, glossing over the fact that Madeleine would still be with them had they done what any human being would have done and stayed with their chilre.
Why would I respect them. That really sticks in my throat. Telling us to respect people who neglected their children.
Please let me know where it is from, people should not be allowed get away with writing this. If they want to trot out the same old PR rubbish, tell the same lies about the circumstances, fine by me, they are just digging a hole for themselves.
But this is not on, noboby but noboby deserves respect for leaving three tiny children, alone, in the dark, afraid, in a strange place. I would like the author of that rubbish to explain it to me, I am obviously missing something.

I think that in the coming week and beyond with the 5th anniversary there is going to be a world shortage of sick buckets!
I may be in a minority here but, if the McCanns are telling the truth (stop sniggering at the back!) that they left the children unattended and are guilty of absolutely nothing else, I would not judge them and I would be sorry for them. As a first and only time mother many years ago I did some things which still make me cringe with shame even now.
It is their loathsome behaviour ever since, their ridiculous stories, their turning the situation into a commercial money-making enterprise and their bully boy tactics to silence anyone who hasn't fallen for their lies is what I cannot accept.
I've just seen that the article was "writtten" by Tony Parsons. It was he who penned a vile article about the Portuguese police. I'll try to find it and add it here.

Exactly - this is what`s so revolting and insulting to peoples` intelligence. To begin with I felt sorry for them, even if it had been an accident; sad for Maddie`s short life but these things happen. It`s their arrogance, superiority and their aggressive attitude in insisting the world believes their lies. The way they act is a cross between celebrities and despots.

"They are the embodiment of parental love"............that has to be the joke of the century. Just in case you ever read here Tony Parsons, take note...................loving parents do NOT leave their tiny children unattended in a foreign country, or anywhere else whilst they go off for their "me time". Loving parents know that a lot can happen to small children in just a few minutes, being sick and choking to death, climbing out of cots and breaking their necks, getting out of bed and finding dangerous things to play with or eat, plus many other dangers. If you think what the Mccanns did is the embodiment of parental love then I feel very sorry for any child of yours.

Loving parents tend to come home with a full complement of children rather than considering two out of three to be respectable odds.

Maddy case must be reopened: Cop who led the botched Portuguese hunt calls on authorities to act
Goncarlo Amaral is being sued by the McCanns but even so sided with the couple after Portuguese authorities refused to reopen the case
Inquiry call: Former Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral
AP
The bungling cop who led the botched Madeleine McCann investigation last night backed calls for the case to be reopened.
Goncarlo Amaral is being sued by Kate and Gerry McCann after he claimed they were involved in their daughter’s disappearance.
But yesterday the detective sided with the couple – 24 hours after Portuguese authorities refused to reopen the case.
“We were always against the closing of the case,” he said. “It should be reopened.”
He also called for a Crimewatch-style reconstruction of the night the youngster vanished from a Portugal holiday resort in May 2007.
“We need a reconstruction,” said Amaral, who was taken off the case six months after Madeleine vanished.
“This is a fundamental police act which will serve to remove contradictions, inconsistencies and lies.”
Missing: Madeleine disappeared five years ago
PA
Scotland Yard chiefs called on the Portuguese authorities to reopen the five-year-old investigation earlier this week after a British review of 40,000 pieces of information in the case found 195 new leads.
But Kate and Gerry’s hopes of a breakthrough were dashed when senior police chief Pedro do Carmo and Attorney General Fernando Jose Pinto Monteiro ruled out a new probe.
The McCanns’ call for the reopening of the case was echoed by former Scotland Yard murder squad detective Peter Kirkham yesterday who said it was “shameful” the investigation had been shelved.
“It’s not right we should put to bed a murder inquiry or a missing child inquiry. It’s shameful to do that,” he insisted.
“This is not like the vast majority of missing persons inquiries where a teenager or older person has gone missing under their own steam.
“Madeleine did not go missing under her own steam. The bottom line is the case is not solved. We have a British child who’s missing abroad.
“If it has not been resolved we should be continuing to look into it. That should be done on all unsolved cases.”

Another one who hasn't followed the case or he would know this has been Amaral's position throughout. The parents have only just referred to a reopening but have not attempted to exercise their right to formally request it.

It is at least reassuring to read that there were 485 complaints to the Press Commission about this appalling piece of "journalism".
