Sky News Report on Madeleine's Photo
10:04pm UK, Tuesday May 08, 2012 An online voucher that uses a photograph of Madeleine McCann to sell discounted holidays has been branded an "utter disgrace". Kate and Gerry McCann's spokesman Clarence Mitchell told Sky News the picture, featured on the website VoucherDigg, should be removed immediately. The holiday snap of Madeleine aged three, was taken hours before the youngster disappeared from a Portuguese apartment in 2007. Kate and Gerry were horrified when they found out about it. It is offensive in the extreme. Clarence Mitchell But it is now being used to advertise "£20 off: Great discount on holiday bookings". When users click on it they are taken to a page featuring deals from lowcostholidays.com. The advert promotes breaks in a self-catering family apartment in Albufeira, Algarve - not far from the Praia da Luz resort where Madeleine vanished five years ago. Mr Mitchell, said: "The misuse of Madeleine's picture in this way is utterly appalling and frankly unforgivable. "Kate and Gerry were horrified when they found out about it. It is offensive in the extreme.
"Whether it's a mistake or hacking it's an utter disgrace." He added: "That is the last picture of Madeleine that was taken on the holiday in 2007 just before she was taken, and for someone to use it - as some sort of sick joke it would appear - advertising holidays to Portugal of all places, is just appalling. There is no excuse for it." He added London law firm Carter-Ruck has been called in to demand the removal of the picture. Lawrence Hunt, chief operating officer at lowcostholidays.com, said: "We have no contract with VoucherDigg to advertise our holidays and we are doing all that we can to contact the website and get the picture removed. "We discovered this vile material yesterday and immediately broke all the links to our site and contacted our lawyers. "We apologise for any distress this may have caused which is completely beyond our control and are disgusted by the use of this image." VoucherDigg has not commented.

Morning kitti, I said yesterday that its is stretching our imagination that some Chinese Travel Agency promoting a Holiday in Portugal shows A PHOTO
OF MADELEINE......what are the odds of that happening.?????

He always drops himself In it does Mitchell....
To me it points to the way off getting ALL pictures, Including the one at the top off this site, removed....because the mccanns want to ERASE everything Including her pictures , from the Internet.

To me it suggests another ploy to keep Madeleine in the spotlight. Thousands of photos of Madeleine are stored on Blogs etc, it would be imposssible
to round them all up. I have heard of lowcostholidays , would they use some obscure Chinese marketing Agency to promote this Holiday ? NO.
I'm just going to click on lch and see how they market their holidays.

Portugal Holidays 2012 - 2013
Overview Attractions Prices & Offers Hotels
This is taken from lowcostholidays online, a lovely Coastal Photo which didn't come out, no way did that ad come from some obscure Chinese Agency.!!!!!
Portugal at a Glance
A holiday to Portugal is a very popular choice with its beautiful stretches of sandy beaches, rich and interesting culture and welcoming locals.
If you’re looking for cheap holidays in Portugal, then the Algarve region in the South with its amazing sandy beaches, rocky coves and rugged cliffs has hundred of different hotels and apartments to choose from. If you’re a keen golfer then you’ll find 14 of Europe’s top 100 courses on your holiday; Portugal was voted ‘Best Golfers Destination’ in 2012 by Today's Golfer.

They can't have it both ways Kitti.
They put her picture out, right from the very first moment, and are proud and boastful of their global reach. They can't want her picture taken down, yet want to have us looking out for a little girl who has no face for us to recognise.
I think however, in this case, that it is very sinister that Maddie's picture is associated with holiday sales, yet the actual culprit cannot be found in time for the picture to be removed before we see the predictable 'storm in a tea cup'.
Nevertheless (and seeing a repeated pattern emerging over the years) I wouldn't put it past the deviousness that we have seen from Mitchel/team McCann, to create and/ or profit from, yet another way of garnering sympathy for the poor poor victims (no, not Maddie but the parents) and extracting as much 'red herring' mileage from all and any possible chances of getting their own faces into the public arena.
Seen it all before.....big, big yawn....it's almost as predictable as Big Ben's bells ringing every hour, on the hour. Oh, and what about some compensation for such 'hurt' while we're at it.

Re: Sky News Report on Madeleine's Photo
The McCann machine has been very quick and successful at whooshing things within seconds, in the past.
It is very strange that this was not whooshed immediately and commented on by them afterwards. I said it at the beginning and I will say it again. If they were truly shocked by this, they should not have drawn attention to it through the media whilst it was still on the site. They should have waited until it was removed. Not leave it there for all to see.
What springs to my cynical mind is this. In the week where the new SY age progression image was splashed across the world, an image which in my opinion the McCanns have been very slow to embrace and publicise - why is it not on the front of the new book - we have this story. The original Madeleine image splashed across the media for the world to see again. So the new image is being replaced again by the "last picture".

Agreed, cynical me too.
Funny how Mitchel accedes to 'hacking' as a possibility. He should know, master of mixing it with the shady arts and characters of the now exposed 'hacking' empire.

Morning mossman, I will bet with anyone this is a sick attention seeking attempt to gain more sympathy and maybe increase the sale of Kate's book.
Without going back to the thread , I don't think the Chinese Marketing Company even mentioned the photo in their apology? Notice how Clarence brought Carter Ruck into it, can't the McCanns do anything for themselves , I'm sure Joe Publice must be sick of the McCanns by now and think this new book will bomb.

Hello Panda, I agree with you. What was also "lucky" with the discovery of this image was the fact that it was done at a week-end. Acceptable therefore for it to have taken a few days for it to disappear.

We've had a 'perfect storm' of non stop publicity over the last two weeks or so. But glaringly absent is any headline about the paperback - serialisation of the extra 100 or so pages?
Paperback barely mentioned in all the publicity - what's that about?
I spoke to a friend of mine this week on the phone. I've already given her information on Maddie several times. This time I mentioned the idiotic Spanish sighting
and had a short rant about the whole thing.
'O yes, she said, they've almost ruled that man out haven't they? Those poor twins, they must be missing their sister so much...'
Another concise rant on my part which didn't register. 'I hope she'll be found' she said. I gave up.

How did this picture/lowcostholiday furore get exposed?
Someone saw it, reported it, said we know the McCanns watch here, so they will see it now and will no doubt do the carter-rucking thing that they usually do.
Who first discovered the photo....how did it come to their notice?
Reason being, IF the mcteam started this all up, for the obvious furore, poor me/us thing, give us some more money, look the other way, not this way, we still need front of shop to promote Kate's next biggest flop ..sorry, fictional bewk, then they wouldn't just hope that someone would be scanning holiday ads to discover the photo on the off chance.
No, the discovery needed precise timing, to promote the book and all the rest, so who was steered to make the discovery. How did the holiday ad come to someone's notice ?
I've tried to find the origin of the discovery, but can't.
Anybody know?

Tigger, that is a very good, and important, point. What is going on with the book and the lack of publicity.
I tend to think that either Scotland Yard were not very supportive of it or the McCanns bottled it and could not be seen to be begging for money because of SY review. They no longer need money to fund their "search", the tax payer are footing the bill.

All people/friends that speak of the case, that thought the McCanns were not involved, all now say that the McCanns know full well what has happened to Maddy and that the fund is a fraud!!
To be honest the McCanns themselves have done a very good job of making the public question them over the last 4.5years, then us nutters could ever do imo.

I think everyone on Planet Earth knows Kate's Epilogue is on sale, how many countries did they visit before Publication?
"The advert promotes breaks in a self-catering family apartment in Albufeira, Algarve - not far from the Praia da Luz resort " This advert is definitely a put up job , not only the photo but "not far from the Praia da Luz resort"........could anything be more specific. ?
"self caterieng family apartment" "not far from PDL" photo of Madeleine, lowcostholidays, (the McCanns were supposedly short of money) so I am
starting to think it is a very clever twitterer who started the whole thing off , even to the apology , either with the Mccanns knowledge, or they have
made use of this.

Morning TEIN, Yes, of course it is in poor taste, but there are many sickos on the Internet, but for the McCanns to exploit it is just as bad. Not so many
people would have noticed it if Clarence hadn't made a Press Statement but dealt with it privately.

Re: Sky News Report on Madeleine's Photo
I think there is a danger in seeing conspiracy in anything much the same as other places claiming this was hacking by an "anti". The simple facts are it was a genuine website which had been operating for a couple of years possibly with Chinese links (the only name I seen linked to the site is a Mr Zhang). Nothing I have seen has identified how long the picture was on the site (image properties only identify when it is first viewed by yourself) and it might have been there for weeks before anyone spotted it. Nothing coming from Lowcostholidays, the website itself or anywhere else (apart from CM and TM supporters) has indicated or even suggested "intent" or any hacking was involved.
One thing is certain however CM is not one to miss an opportunity in using anything that comes his way to best advantage.

We were sorry!
Our editing team made the mistake, that Madeleine McCann’s image was
linked to the discount holidays to Portugal. We are sorry for the
serious wrongdoing that occurred. We unreservedly apologise for the
hurt suffered by Mr. and Mrs. McCann.
We regret our not acting faster to sort things out because of our
editing team and management overseas not being concerned about the
British social news and not realizing the wrongdoing. We realise that
this explanation and simply apologising are not enough, because the
hurt and damage are irretrievable. In the coming days, we shut down
voucherdigg.co.uk to show our sincere apology.
Note......it was voucherdigg.co.UK which was shut down, so
We deeply apologies to Mr. and Mrs. McCann.
We deeply apologies to the society.
We also apologies to the lowcostholidays for the negative brand
affect, who has nothing to do with this issue.
Vourcherdigg.co.uk team
It was voucherdigg.co.uk who composed the Ad so they would certainly know about Madeleine and of course lowcostholidays would have known and
if they commissioned the firm wouldn't they check out the ad first.

I'm sorry but the highlighted bit is an assumption. Also Lowcostholidays have repeatedly stated they have no connection with Voucherdigg and probably were even unaware that a discount voucher was even being promoted on the site. It is a "voucher site" merely using knowledge of voucher offers to generate site traffic and presumably advertising revenue (just like discountvoucher or any number of similar sites). The fact it is a UK domain name means nothing as regards who is running the site or where from.
