I think the Government as major shareholder should dictate whether RBS staff should get a Bonus, especially when they continue to make losses.

Badboy, some Banks have crashed , others had their security system breached, they just can't cope with all this technology. Why did they bring in Mobile phone?, you can go on line to check your account, phone the Branch , or go to the Branch. With all the redunduncies due to take place there will be more problems.

Marky, I can honestly say I have never known such greed and dishonestly in the Financial World , Britains' reputation is shot .
Buying a House these days is not particularly a foolproof way of investing, too much relies on low interest rates. I was reading a while ago about Sharia Banking and think they have come up with the best idea to stop all this indebtedness and vagaries of Property prices. Say you are a Couple who want to buy a House, the Sharia Bank will own the house and charge you rent. When the Rent has paid off the Mortgage you are given the deeds Saves all these repossessions, exhorbitant rent etc

to do that would require a raise in the base rate which at this time is probably not a good idea. as for bonuses the people concerned have earned them in accordance with the conditions of their legally binding contracts of employment.

Marky, many Moons ago when i worked in Jersey for a Major Bank,( you name it, Iv'e done it) a few of us were paid by the Bank to attend a Seminar in London. One of the Speakers told us that the Traders on the Floor were paid a collosal Salary and worked at such a frantic pace they were played out by 30 yrs of age. He also told us that Barclays had a bonus every month besides their Salary and the guy with the most sales was given a Green Card to be used at a top Restaurant. This Trader took some friends for a meal and the bill came to £16,000 and I'm talking a long time ago!!!
BTW although the other Employees were more Senior than me, I was the only one who turned up for the Seminar, they were all hung over.
I think we should change to Sharia Banking for Mortgages much more civilised and less dependent on the whims of inflation.

as long as the banking industry controls the politicians and governments this ridiculous and bizarre situation will continue. there will never be any accountability for the banking industry simply because of deregulations and never ending supply of cheap cheap fiat money available to them. and as long as the taxpayers are standing ready to bail them out.
we need to overhaul the system in its entirety !

I don't remember anything about that, surely they couldn't nationalise all their banks. Look at the mess we are in because we saved RBS !!! Why do we, as major shareholder allow these bonuses?????

If this money is out there it should be taxed Badboy. The problem being those who potentially have it or know where it is are the people who set taxes and are unlikely to put a tax on assets which they cannot account for. Such money is in all probability in bank accounts which cannot be traced.Badboy wrote:TELL YOU WHAT I THINK IS PART OF THE PROBLEM,THERE ARE POTENTIALLY TRILLIONS OF POUNDS/DOLLARS TO INVEST,HENCE DUBIOUS MORTAGE PRODUCTS ETC.

There was a big huff and puff about the Government closing down the tax havens in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of man etc , it's the Havens in Europe and Far
East that hold the most money for British tax dodgers.
