A British toddler has been taken into care after her drunk parents abandoned her during a holiday in Portugal.
The girl, aged around two-years-old, was found alone, crying in a buggy by a concerned passer-by.
Police were called to the scene and found her parents, who were described as 'middle-class teachers', 109 yards away so drunk they were unable to give their daughter’s name.

On holidays: The girl was found alone, crying in her buggy in seaside village Carcavelos, Portugal. Her parents were found 109 yards away 'completely drunk'
Officers gave the distressed child soup and water before taking her to a police station and handing her over to social workers.
The girl was found in the village of Carcavelos, 15 miles west of Portuguese capital Lisbon at 8pm on Monday.
The couple, a 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman who have not been named were on holidays with their daughter in the village according to newspaper Diario de Noticias.
The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement posted on Facebook: ‘The PSP were called to an incident in Carcavelos where a child was in a baby buggy having been abandoned.
‘It was possible to identify the parents about 100 meters away, in an advanced state of drunkenness.
‘The PSP were able to feed the child soup and water, and later at the police station, with fish and cooked vegetables.
Well known for wine: The little girl was handed to social workers after police found her and her parents in the holiday destination which became famous for its strong white wine

‘Given the dangerous situation the child was in, she spent the night at the Emergency Reception Centre for Minors in Carcavelos.’
Fabio Castro, PSP spokesman, said: ‘The girl's parents were about 100 metres away, sat on an esplanade, completely drunk.
‘They weren't able to confirm if they were the child's parents because they refused to obey the police's orders.
‘The officers tried to communicate with them in several languages.’
They were taken to a police station where they were eventually identified as the child's parents.
The Commission for the Protection of Children and Youngsters in the Cascais area of Portugal have launched an investigation.
A court will decide when the child is returned to her parents.
Carcavelos became well known for its strong, sweet white wine made famous in 1782 when the King of Portugal sent a case as a gift to the Chinese Emperor.
Wine production is somewhat reduced nowadays with the region becoming better known among surfers for good surfing conditions.

I'm never sure why Newspapers lay such emphasis on "Class" (whatever it actually is) and the Professional Status of alleged wrong-doers: People of all walks of life can and do do the most appalling things. The propensity for so doing is an individual matter, and is not occasioned by the arbitrary sensationalist generic drivel created by the Media.

Why do we need to know about the King of Portugal sending wine to the Chinese in 1782? Is it relevant?

I wonder will Kate make contact with the parents, as she has done in the past with parents of missing children. She has after all something in common with these particular parents as well, abandonment.

Well, well well well well well well well well well well.
If you have the right connections, you can get away with anything.
This is the very least of what should have happened to the Mccann's.

Come on now, give them a break...they were just so into each other & the resort was incredibily quiet,a very relaxed child friendly enviroment,im sure they will have to bring up a case from about five & a half years ago where the parents were pronounced...responsible...they left three kids btw
