There will be a short delay as the lawyer for Dr, Amaral is unwell.

Amaral twice postponed the Correia Trial , now after all this time waiting for this case to come to Court, it is delayed ......does anyone believe his Lawyer is ill?
Can someone tell me who Pinto is? I know the name but not what his role was in this case.

Re: Libel case delay
The Court Officials clearly believe he's ill and that's good enough for me.
I'm more interested in the issue about Healy & McCann not wanting to attend in person than the precise date of the Hearing.
Not heard much about that at all, of late.

Delayed for a week. After all this time that's not too long to wait.
Re: Libel case delay
Forget it, I am now convinced the MaCanns are home and dry.
Didnt Amaral ask for an adjournment previously as he was changing his lawyer as the travelling was too much for his last lawyer ?

Thanks whatsupdoc........it's a long read but Pinto is Chairman of the Lawyers Order and as such should maintain impartiality which he clearly isn't if he is a Witness for the McCanns.

Yes duncanmac, he did and he also wanted a videolink because the case was being tried too far away for HIM as far as I
remember. This whole thing stinks IMO , what possible illness could Amaral's Lawyer have which prevents him acting for his Client but ensures he will be fit in one weeks time? This is a Civil court so thankfully no Jury has been enlisted , but the Judges and Lawyers, Court time alloted , McCanns Travel Arrangements all affected.

Well I will be away matthew, but to be honest, it's just as well Sorry, I'm with duncanmac on this and this trial will be endgame for the McCann case . When we were kids if you were ill and couldn't go to school you had to have a letter from your Parents explaining why you couldn't attend school. As far as I know, no one has published the illness Amaral's Lawyer has which prevents him attending on 13th but doesn't preclude his appearance a week later , only 2 days were set aside which wouldn't have been that gruelling for him to attend.

Re: Libel case delay
Frankly, I don't care if the delay is months, as long as it comes to fruition: Delays are perfectly normal, extremely common and are rarely for sinister reasons.
I spent years being frustrated by the difficulties in planning my workload owing to perpetual uncertainty over dates for Criminal and Civil Cases - and Inquests, but the delays themselves do not influence the outcome, nor should they be seen as suspicious.
I cannot for the life of me see how Amaral can lose.

I was on jury duty for two weeks recently, obliged to be there to undertake my 'civic duty,' or be liable to a fine of £2,000. We sat in a cafeteria every day for two weeks as one hitch after another occurred. Never saw a courtroom.

Yes indeed.
The wheels of Justice can grind extremely slowly.
But in by far and away the vast majority of Cases, the result is the right one.
Eventually!

TEIN, this case has been in the pipeline for 2 years, finally a date is set for the hearing and you don't think it strange that Amaral's Lawyer cannot attend a 2 day hearing but can a week later? Also strange that the first Witness for the McCanns is the Chairman of the Lawyers Order and should be impartial?

Very slowly! We were told not to leave the building in case we were called. So, we sat there, drinking cups of tea and reading for two whole feckin' weeks!

To the first question, no I don't think it strange at all.
No idea about the second.
I'm always wary of reading too much into the mundane.

Ah but Oldartform , those illnesses do not affect you 5 days before you are to appear in Court , most can be treated with antibiotics which generally relieve the symptoms by 13th. If a full recovery wasn't expected there would not be a new Trial date in one week. He hasn't been Amaral's Lawyer for long so maybe facing Isobel Duarte AND the McCanns was just too much and he's had an attack of cowardice.

Influenza does not respond to antibiotics as it is a viral infection. Bronchitis and sinusitis may if they are bacterial infections but neither is necessarily. Ear infection probably bacterial so may respond. It could be that Amaral's lawyer does not expect his illness to last another week but that the earliest court date is in one week's time.
Re: Libel case delay
The delay will also be affecting the McCanns... They will have no idea why there has been a postponement... Is Amaral preparing new evidence? Are new witnesses coming forward? Have they made some glaring mistake which is about to be exposed? All these things and more could be going through their minds and they will have to psych themselves up for the new date.

I`m in fits `ere
Settle down OAF
Panda - even if he could be on the way to recovery in 5 days time, he would probably still be somewhat below par - and one needs to be on top form for this case.
