Very irresponsible - do they not anticipate a backlash when the truth cannot be denied any longer?
Do they think the sheeple will still follow even when they've been lied to?

Was just going to say the same, if the webmasters lying all hell will break loose on their page. The truth will out on this one.

Quickfingers - I had the same problem! Those Facebook pages are so difficult to navigate sometimes and comments seem disjointed (for me, anyway - which is one reason why I don't do Facebook!)

But I think it refers to when Martin Hubner was asking about the rumours - and was told to email the webmaster. Then Pammie pipes up and says it 'may not be any of our business' and the Webmaster says they do not discuss legal or investigative matters on there.

I do hope that any financial settlement in Amaral's favour comes along with a public apology, to be printed in the main organs of both the Portuguese and British Media, and sincerely exonerating him with the aim of restoring the damage Healy & McCann have done to his reputation and his marriage.

I certainly hope so too but the McCanns just don't seem the types who would lower themselves to apologise for anything and I can't see the story being published even if they did.

Still, never say never, maybe the tide is turning along with the other things currently being brought out into the open.

It's a ploy by the McCanns to gain another 6 months during which time they can get the Bennett case done and dusted and reap the PR rewards in the UK media. It's the UK media which takes priority for the McCanns - always has.

I can't see the Bennett Case doing much good for Healy & McCann unless it's withheld outside public scrutiny.

Surely many issues unpalatable to Healy & McCann will be aired? And the public aren't stupid.

(Well, most of them, anyway!)

i agree with this -- its all about damage limitation -- do they care about what portugal think no -- its all about what people in the uk think -- their familys being top on the list --at all costs from day 1 the family HAVE to believe ABDUCTION

I'm more inclined to think that the capitulation in the Amaral Case is because they do not under any circumstances wish to find themselves obliged to be Examined in person in a Portuguese Court - not only do they know their allegations don't stack up, but they asked some time ago to be permitted to participate by Video Link (Probably from UK, rather than Brazil!): I wonder if, as one would hope and expect, that that request was not granted?

No reason why it should have been, of course: They are the Plaintiffs and getting to Portugal is not exactly difficult.

I really don't believe GA will settle.

He wants to clear his name and who can blame him?

I do not see him giving the McCanns a penny, nor do i believe he will allow himself to be gagged.

GA holds all the cards and i believe the Libel case will go ahead.

Yes, I think a "money only" outcome is the least desired.

So either a very public apology (and some money) or a full Hearing.

He has got them by the cojones, regardless!

I read somewhere that Mr Amaral's new lawyer is one smart cookie.
So if the opposition try any tricks, hopefully he'll be able to anticipate them - and ably circumvent them.

Well there is one slight problem, there:

In three and a half centuries (or so it seems) of marriage, my dear wife has never permitted me to be right

Whoever drafted their case against Amaral must have known they could not win. No way has the search been hindered, the Family's health suffered , nor the Book written in Portugese affected the twins. I think it was Smethhurst who went to Portugal with Gerry to engage Duarte and file the complaint . He is a Corporate Lawyer and may not have been very experienced in this kind of case , E1.2 million was a huge amount to ask as compensation and I think the McCanns have cold feet and know, because the Review has not turned up any new evidence , that they would not win their case.

I agree, because he's lost a hell of a lot more than mere money.

Quite - although we don't know what SY may or may not have turned up as it's not something that will be made public.

That said, anything they do find/ have found will be entirely in accordance with the PJ's findings and should bolster those conclusions.

Healy & McCann are, however, doing a food job of hoisting their own petard (I really must Google that), but I do wish that clock would tick somewhat faster.

Wonder no more about all those levitating petards. It means to fall foul of your own deceit or to fall into your own trap.

A petard was a kind of medieval bomb which was apt to explode prematurely.
