In 2010, the latest year for which the data is available, 591,000 people
moved to Britain - more than double the number who migrated to France, which
received 251,200.
Spain reported the second highest influx, at 465,200, followed by Italy with
458,900 and Germany with 404,100.
These top four countries together took in almost two thirds (61.9%) of all
immigrants entering EU member states, the figures from Eurostat showed.
The UK also had the highest number of people acquiring citizenship in 2010,
at 194,800.
This figure accounted for almost a quarter (24%) of the total number of
people gaining citizenship in EU countries.

France was the second highest in the citizenship table, granting it to
143,300 people that year.
Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the campaign group Migration Watch, said the
UK’s position at the top of the immigration table was “the clear result of mass
immigration under Labour.”
He said: “Labour left annual net migration at over half a million and these
figures show it was by far the highest in the EU.”
The numbers were no surprise as “we were well aware of the chaos in the
British system,” he added.
In 2010, a total of about 3.1 million people immigrated to an EU member
state, while at least two million emigrants were reported to have left one.
The figures reveal a slight increase in immigration compared with 2009.
The UK reported the second highest number of emigrants, with 339,400 leaving
the country.
Only Spain had more emigrants in 2010, with 403,000 leaving.
The figures from the European Commission statistics arm follow warnings from
German cities that an influx of Romanian and Bulgarian economic migrants will
cost them dear and put the “social peace” at risk.
The German Association of Cities has reported problems of illegal working,
schoolchildren being unable to speak German and a rise in organised crime since
the migrants arrived.
It also comes amid fears in Britain that tens of thousands more Romanians and
Bulgarians will come here each year after formal restrictions on the numbers of
low-skilled workers from the two countries end next year.

The statistic which is not highlighted is that these figures represent known migrants to the UK.

Exactly malena.!!! I play skittles and one of the Women in the Team who lives very near me told me the Council were doing a house to house survey a couple of years ago to find out how many people lived in each house. There were 14 foreigners living in the 3 bedroom house next door to her , Asian . How many of those were illegals.?malena stool wrote:The statistic which is not highlighted is that these figures represent known migrants to the UK.
