I've just seen the "front page" of the Daily Star and it indicates an article entitled, "Ordeal of Maddie's dad Gerry" in the Monday edition.

I take it this would be in connection with his "ordeal"/participation in the race held Sunday although the article is not yet online.

Gerry McCann target of troll abuse

VILE internet trolls hit out at Madeleine McCann’s dad for competing in a race to raise funds for missing people

They posted evil messages on his Just Giving webpage, which the public used to pledge cash for Gerry’s efforts in the London Triathlon yesterday.

The heart specialist, whose daughter vanished from the family’s Portuguese holiday apartment in 2007, raised nearly £8,000 for charity Missing People.

But before Gerry, 45, set out on the 40km cycle, 10km run and 1.5km swim, two trolls posted defamatory comments about him – even though it cost them £2 in donations to leave the messages.

Gerry, who spent weeks training for the event, said after the triathlon: “It was incredibly hard, especially the bike.

“What kept me going was the thought of being able to help the charity Missing People support other families living with the very different pain of having a missing loved one.

“A huge, huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me.”

The trolls struck three months after another threatened to gun down Gerry’s wife Kate, 45, as she ran the London Marathon in aid of the same charity.

The former GP ignored the threats and raised £21,000 with her run.

Yet more abuse surfaced on Facebook earlier this month after the Met police announced they were opening their own investigation into Maddie’s case.

The probe, led by Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood, has identified 38 potential suspects.

The family’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell described the trolls’ comments on JustGiving as “rude”.

He added: “These people are abusing a charity page.

“The posts are not worthy of any further comment.”

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/329283/Gerry-McCann-target-of-troll-abuse

Clarrie appears to be as good with the English language as Gerry is with his "purporting a theory" comment. Clarrie, you can abuse a person or an animal, but you cannot abuse a charity page. How would you do that anyway? "You vile charity page, I'm going to torture you"?

Thanks AnnaEsse, ........£8,000 eh, not very generous for a 3 event acheivement, what about all those rich people he knows , relatives, friends, the Labour Party etc. Seems the Daily Star is the first to post about the McCanns these days and notice how Cameron Mitchell keeps popping up, at one time I thought his role to protect the McCanns was finished.

And the £8,000 didn't represent a huge number of donations. Without Hugh Grant, the sum raised would have been rather paltry. There weren't many names on that list for someone like Gerry whose name and face have been so often in the popular (?) dailies.

The McCanns remind me of fading Film Stars who, starved of publicity who will do anything to stay in the limelight. Relax Kate and Gerry, you got more than you wanted....an investigation no less.!!! Admittedly the evidence is thin on the ground and the spokesman for SY should perhaps be more circumspect about the claims he is making, and maybe Joe Public is immune to Madeleine's disappearance after 6 years and sightings around the world proving ludicrous.

Apart from all Madeleine's unofficial internet aunties and uncles, who plod on day by day, trying to find out what happened to her, no one seems to care what happened to Madeleine. The Government, Scotland Yard, the McCanns high profile friends, have all treated the McCanns as the victims. They have offered support and sympathy towards the McCanns, but none of them have offered any sympathy for the ordeal Madeleine suffered, due to her parents cruel behaviour and it was cruel.

In the early days of Madeleine's disappearance, not one of the McCanns high profile friends, ever got off their butts, to look for Madeleine, they all threw money at the McCanns. It's as if they knew that there was no point in looking for Madeleine.

Even if these people were too busy to look for Madeleine, they had enough money between them, to pay for an army of people to search every nook and cranny around Portugal, let alone Praia da Luz. If the McCanns had half an ounce of decency, they would have used the money that was thrown at them, to pay the wages of the locals, who stayed off work for more than a week, to join the police, in their search for Madeleine.

I never thought that 6yrs after Madeleine disappeared, her parents would still be walking around like celebrities.

Scotland Yard are running around like headless chickens, as they try to find anyone but the McCanns, to blame for Madeleine's disappearance. In my opinion, S.Y. thought it would be plain sailing, when they took on this review, how wrong they were. If they were so confident of getting a result that exonerated the McCanns, the review would have been over within weeks of it starting. Scotland Yard, have now turned the review into an investigation. Are they any nearer finding at least one scapegoat, to blame for Madeleine's disappearance? No they're not.

All we have heard for weeks are the inane comments from Andy Redwood as well as press releases, saying a team of Scotland Yard detectives, are going over to Portugal, to interview suspects. Have these suspects been interviewed? No they haven't. Why? Because in my opinion, the only suspects are the McCanns. If there were any suspects apart from the McCanns, residing in Portugal, S.Y. would have kept that information to themselves and gone to Portugal to interview these suspects.

Scotland Yard are as bad as the two former N.I. senior police officers Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley, who acted as Private Eyes, for the McCanns. Edgar and Cowley, were forever telling the media things that should have remained secret and would have remained secret, if they were doing their job properly. The only time Edgar and Cowley left their Cheshire office, was if they were visiting a country with a sunny climate.
I don't know if Edgar and Cowley ever visited Portugal, if they did, they didn't visit the lawless community 10km outside PDL, where Madeleine was supposed to be held against her will. I know this to be true, because Edgar told the media, that he passed on this information to the PJ and the PJ, didn't act on it.

If Madeleine was being held in that lawless community, she would have been removed pretty quick, once Edgar told the media what he should have kept to himself.

The way I see it, it isn't just the McCanns, their relatives and their friends in high places, who know that there is no point in looking for Madeleine. In my opinion, Scotland Yard along with Edgar, Cowley and the rest of the McCanns private detectives, also know that there is no point in looking for Madeleine. They also know that without a shadow of doubt, the two main suspects in Madeleine's disappearance, are her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.

Pompous prat.

ETA
Notable that the content of the so-called 'abuse' was not detailed.
No surprise there.
That would have sent Joe Public scurrying for the files.
And we can't have that, can we?

Certainly not "rude" or the work of trolls though naturally anything that contradicts the official story wouldn't be allowed.

If certain people were not so hell bent on using mendacious propaganda - and if newspapers and other media outlets were allowed to do a thorough, investigative job on this case instead of being fearful of receiving lawsuits from the vexatious litigants - then frustrated individuals (who can see through the fairytale) would not feel it necessary to use methods which some might consider unorthodox.

All the Zlebs 'donating' to the 'reward' (£2.5 MILLION) was a token gesture.
All the Zlebs KNEW, imo, that they would never ever have to pay up, their 'share'!
It got them what they always 'crave' and that's getting publicity.
As you say where are their billionaire 'friends' NOW, donating to Gerry's heroic feat?
Oh, i know, they were all 'supportive' BEFORE the 'files' were released!
But having had their minions READ the available files the backers 'disappeared' quicker than you could say 'let's go to the Tapas'!
And with Kate McCanns statement: "if the case is re-opened, OR NOT, it DOSEN'T MATTER"
Their 'backers' were GONE!
Could you imagine for one minute if a member of Branson's or Greene's 'family' went 'missing' that THEY would say, 'IT DOSEN'T MATTER'?
Could you imagine for one minute that any of their Zleb 'backers' wouldn't be bothered to demand, beg, plead with the Portuguese Authorities to NEVER 'shelve' their investigation?
NO, me neither!
And that's why all their Zleb 'friends' are asking WHY haven't the McCanns ever asked the Portuguese, personally, to re-open the case.

ETA:
WHY don't all those Zlebs that were going to 'donate' to the 'reward' put that money they 'pledged' RIGHT NOW into 'fund' to be used to 'search' for Madeleine? Ordeal of Maddie's dad Gerry (Daily Star) 52433
Maybe they could even ask K&G if THEY could 'administer' the new 'fund'.

Really, really desperate story if you ask me, someone spoke their mind whoopy doo!

Is nobody allowed an opinion now?  We have to hear the McCanns opinions as much as they can showhorn themselves in the press.

Gerry only raised £3,000 without his mate Hugh Grants donation, which is dreadful considering the effort he was making with the triathalon, no wonder the fund raiser merged his page with Kates to make it look better!  He must be humiliated.

Only 140 donations ~ not many for such a well known celebrity. All that publicity last week and sofa sitting on Daybreak. Training and interviews take up time, when does he work? This year Kate had 611 donations, much more than previous years.

I really don't know what Missing People do and whether they have any success. It looks like their pension and wage bill in 2011 was £1.3m. Don't know what their income was ~ will have a look at their website to see. It might say what their success rate is and how many 'missing' people they've found.

The Daily Star article saying 'gunned down' is totally irresponsible. It was a stupid joke by someone on facebook and afaik the lady in question has been spoken to by police on the phone and apologised profusely.

Not a word about any of the other participants in the triathlon. I would be plenty ticked-off if I had trained, competed and raised funds for this charity only to be overshadowed by this dubious 'celebrity' (for all the wrong reasons) who dominates the media. He has made the efforts of others insignificant by comparison. Further shame on the U.K. press.
