Kate & Gerry McCann – my sympathy is diminishing rapidly

I have written before about the McCann parents. Losing a child must be an unimaginable horror but my sympathy was, even two weeks ago, greatly diminished by the way they had used funds raised to help in the search to silence their critics with legal threats and action and by their apparent love of being on TV and more. As of this week I am afraid that my sympathy almost disappeared.
The Crimewatch special of ten days ago claimed to have big new evidence. I am not sure that it did but I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. Whatever my private views on the chances of finding Maddy alive those who loved her must be allowed to cling to hope.
However it has since emerged that the new evidence actually emerged five years ago thanks to a report compiled by ex MI5 officers paid for by the Mccann’s foundation funded by members of the public (actually it is a limited company which is odd in itself) But the report was also critical of the McCann parents and their friends and so foundation money was used to suppress it with the threat of legal action. Is that really what Maddy well-wishers would have wanted?
It has only now emerged, with the trail five years colder, because the Old Bill have forced it into the public domain. They have done this to justify the millions of quid of public money being spent on this new enquiry, something that has only taken place because of lobbying by Kate & Gerry.
So when Kate McCann blubbers on our TV screens asking for us to help use this NEW evidence I cannot say that I am blubbering with her.
The affaire McCann has become an unpleasant and costly circus. It is time to draw a line."

He's quite a famous stockbroker and financial analyst. Very well known in business and financial circles, and very outspoken into the bargain! He's a bit like Katie Holmes, not afraid to upset people and is worth an absolute fortune. I'd love to see his professional opinion on the McCann company.widowan wrote:Quite.

Well said Mr. Winnifrith , whoever you are . Kate said a "Benefactor" paid for Control Risk, the Company was set up 12 days after Madeleine's disappearance, so by the time Control Risk finished their research there would have been enough in the Fund to pay.

Well I presume there will shortly be angry comments about how can you put a price on a little girl etc but we seem to do that with every other child. Risk is the art of balancing value for money, the taxpayers and the benefactors/donors are clearly not getting value for theirs nor is MM receiving any, and the only ones who are seem to be the papers; with all their legal woes I can't think McCanns are getting much out of this either in terms of profit to themselves -although if they win the libel trial and get £1M out of Amaral that would be something.
Really it's just the furor in the papers and the willingness of people to swallow this pap and demand more so they can focus on something shocking that isn't about their own lives. Had Rebecca Brooks not bullied Cameron into reopening the case so she could continue to mine this story I doubt there'd be a reopening by Sy and that being the case neither would the PJ feel they need to reopen it or review it.
How many people will feel after this when they hear of a missing child "not gonna go there again" and keep their money - I know I would be extremely suspicious after this. They've done enough damage to missing children, their own and other people's. It is time to move on.

I don't know I have always had, and even more so since the McCs, grave concerns about any raising money for looking for a child. my thoughts are this, when a child goes missing and the usual wake and wandered, or omg where is he/she turned my back and gone and cannot be found in a short time, then its usual for the police to be called. local searches undertaken after finding out if the lost child might have been taken by estranged partners etc,. then if nothing found the search is extended. whilst it must be the most harrowing awful thing to happen, unless there is real financial loss, why the need for a fund. I make no apologies for sounding a hard hearted bitch. if there is real need anywhere local, national or anywhere in the world I will donate. when there is something like athe tsunami, earthquakes whatever or someone been out of work for so long they canot afford the funeral they would like to provide then i consider it justified, but money never replaced a child nor a reputation, so why are funds set up.
eda if the cost of finding one child is the use of public money, then the same amount should be used to find other missing people.
second edit to say I agree whole heartedly with T Wimnnifrith and an excellent article.
