Re: Soldiers to face 11 more trials over Iraqi deaths.
This is one of the comments about the ridiculous suggestion that these Soldiers should be sent to Prison. IT IS WAR,KILL OR BE KILLED. I would love to see the Army go on strike in protest and the Navy and Airforce come out in sympathy.!!!

"The case, brought by Phil Shiner, the solicitor, led to a ruling by Sir John Thomas, now Lord Thomas, the Lord Chief Justice, that the ministry had to investigate the accusations in open inquiries. The 11 inquiries will cover 11 deaths in British custody. Each will be chaired by a former judge or a QC and follow the format of an inquest. However, further human rights cases may need to be investigated. Mr Shiner has now brought or is preparing to bring a total of 160 cases alleging British involvement in the deaths of Iraqis and nearly 800 involving allegations that British troops broke Article Three of the Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits torture. Mr Shiner said the 11 inquiries dealt with only a few of the cases he claims should be investigated. The ministry says it is “not yet clear” if more inquiries will be needed to deal with torture."
Who is this Shiner character, where does he come from, what is his reason for pushing for yet more and move investigations, has he served on the front line, is he aware of what happens in conflict especially the sort of guerilla warfare that happens in Afghanistan where the 'enemy' does not wear a uniform are not always identifiable and may even be in your midst and then turn on you?
Shame on the MOD, the legal profession and those who support these investigations because what it is saying is train to be sent into areas of conflict but keep one hand behind your back and if and when you attempt to use two you will be prosecuted! I know, perhaps the way to deal with this is to send a judge with every unit, to send a human rights lawyer with every patrol and, to send both out when a troop or unit is sent out into the field"

I agree 100% Panda. It is disgraceful that soldiers are treated like common criminals. Do you know where the petition is to prevent this happening, 'cos I'd sign it if I knew!

.Oh I like this one, a bit of first hand experience would definitely do the trick

This is War......is every Soldier expected to take a wounded enemy to the nearest hospital????? The MOD has shown it's lack of understanding of what a Soldier has to contend with and a life sentence is unbeleivably harsh.
