The acting President of Ukraine has suggested a Referendum on whether the population wants to become part of the Soviet Union.

This probably because he knows his country is vulnerable if Putin decided to invade. Also there are many Russian speaking people in Ukraine and if the overwhelming majority want to remain seperate the President will be guaranteed military help from other Countries to defend his Country.
