I think it is very wrong that the UK has sent 750 soldiers to areas where it will possible for these people to contract the disease, they have no choice but to go, they follow orders .
When they come back they obviously go into quarantine for up to a month...
There was a breach of protocol when taking off the suit.
and you have it in one. mistakes have been made. this virus in the western world will be no more than a local issue. there will be no outbreak. hygiene is the issue. we have that. west africa doesn't.
But that doesn't sell newspapers, does it?
nope and governments like to keep the people fearful. keeps them under control. 'we are in charge. trust us.'
Exactly.

LBC talked about this yesterday morning. they spoke to an american, can't remember his profession, but his opening remark was that mistakes were made.

Human error...yep, that's where the danger is. Panicky worried nurses just wanting to "do their job and get out" are going to make mistakes.
Are those nursing the patient(s) in the US and other countries living in quarantine...haven't read anything about it?

Remember all the big panic about the "Bird Flu Pandemic" a couple of years back? It came to nothing in the West. So will this.

Yep. Estimates showed that in Portugal there could be around half a million deaths. 78 people died and not all of them from confirmed bird flu. Some were elderly people who may have not resisted the common flu.

She says she didn't breach it. It doesn't mean she didn't. At first the Spanhish nurse said the same thing. Only afterwards did she remember. Here, health professionals will only get contaminated if there are mistakes. But mistakes happen, of course. We all make them so some cases are to be expected.

fair sum up. stuff happens. we should not allow ourselves to be frightened by this no matter what the world health organisation and our governments say. interesting to read today that the WHO says 10k new cases in west africa by chistmas. how did they get that figure? by taking the number so far and dividing them by the current duration on the outbreak and the rest is easy? jeez.

Well, 'experts' said that up to half a million Portuguese citizens could die from the bird flu. It was less than 80 and not all of them confirmed as the bird flu because some elderly people died before they got tested and they could have just been too fragile to survive the common flu. Besides, in that year, many more died from the common flu, as in every year, and there was no fuss about it.

Re: Deadly Ebola Outbreak In Guinea And Spreading
Hi Badboy , I have jusst been watching an interview with a Journalist who witnessd the last outbreak of Ebola and has walked across Liberia and Sierra Leone and says the WHO has handled this very badly, took 4 months to advise the public.
Several Companies are racing to find a cure but there is talk that 9,000 a month cases could occur, another Nurse in the Dallas Hospital is infected but received blood from the U.S. Doctor who survived and showing signs of improvement.
Obama is calling for many Other Countries around the World to join in the Aid programme by supplying equipment and Staff.

it's one thing to work towards a cure but the west african countries won't pay for it should one come along which might be in about 5 years.

Second Texas health worker tests positive for Ebola
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-29628622
A second health worker in the US state of Texas has tested positive for Ebola, health officials say.
Both health workers treated Liberian man Thomas Duncan, who died last week after becoming the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the US.
A local judge said there was a "real possibility" of further cases, and contingencies were being prepared.
Meanwhile, the UN's Ebola mission chief says the world is falling behind in the race to contain the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says 4,447 people have died from the outbreak, mainly in West Africa.
Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have been hardest hit by the outbreak, which began in December 2013 but was confirmed in March.
President Barack Obama is due to hold a video conference with British, French, German and Italian leaders to discuss the Ebola crisis later on Wednesday.
Not fearful'
The identity of the second Texas health worker has not yet been revealed.
But Texas health officials said she was a woman who lived alone without pets, and was put in isolation within 90 minutes of her temperature being taken.
But worryingly there have been reports of staff not getting the correct equipment or the necessary training.
These isolated cases should not become an outbreak as authorities in both countries are monitoring those who came into contact with infected people.
But each new case of transmission is asking the question - is enough being done to protect healthcare workers?
US officials previously said they were monitoring 48 contacts of the Liberian national and the healthcare workers who treated him.
Mr Varga refused to comment on allegations from nurses at the Dallas hospital that health workers had been without adequate protective clothing for days during the outbreak. However, he said yes when asked if they had the necessary protective gear.
The nurses also alleged that they received little guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus.

Marky, Liberia and Sierra Leone are already feeling the effects and both are broke. I agree that hygeine is the biggest obstacle and education the second, so what is the answer ? Ban all flights in and out of these Countries, would it come to that?

The Authorities have asked all passengers on the flight to contact a hot line right away . For such a progressive Country as America , the Hospital has been very lax and been highly criticised.

I can't believe she wasn't told to stay in quarantine for a while. Or at least not to travel!

Re: Deadly Ebola Outbreak In Guinea And Spreading
There were 152 passengers on that plane and apparently the Nurse felt sick before she travelled, wouldn't you think as a Nurse she would seek advice and maybe be tested before her flight ?
