it's one thing to work towards a cure but the west african countries won't pay for it should one come along which might be in about 5 years.
Marky, Liberia and Sierra Leone are already feeling the effects and both are broke. I agree that hygeine is the biggest obstacle and education the second, so what is the answer ? Ban all flights in and out of these Countries, would it come to that?
the answer? they don't want to go there.

Re: Deadly Ebola Outbreak In Guinea And Spreading
I read the nurse took the flight before showing ant symptoms. If that's true, then the other passengers are probably ok since it's not contagious before the symptoms begin.

I'm thinking of commerce, apparently there are still a few imports/exports owned by Foreigners. It's times like this that I feel glad to have been born in

Actually the Nurse felt unwell BEFORE the flight which does make you wonder at her mentality .

Really? So you were with her?

The identity of the second Texas health worker has not yet been revealed. But Texas health officials said she was a woman who lived alone without pets. The disposition of the pets of people infected with Ebola has been a concern - the first woman infected in the US with Ebola had a dog, as did a nurse infected in a Spanish hospital. In Dallas, the second infected healthcare worker was placed in isolation within 90 minutes of reporting a fever. wrote:

I know both nurses treated the same patient.
And I also know you should actually READ the content of the links you post because I clicked your link and the first paragraph I read and which is in bold says the following:
US health officials are seeking 132 people who flew on a plane with a Texas nurse on the day before she came down with symptoms of Ebola. wrote:

A nurse with ebola who was able to board a flight in the US despite suffering from a fever did tell officials she was running a temperature, it has emerged.
Amber Vinson was able to travel from Cleveland, Ohio, to Dallas, Texas, on a commercial plane even though she was showing the early symptoms of the killer disease.
She has now had to be transferred to a specialist unit in Atlanta, Georgia, where she will be treated in isolation and monitored.
It was previously not known that she had made the authorities aware she was not feeling well before taking the flight on 13 October.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been forced to track down 132 other passengers who were on the plane at the same time in case they too have been infected.

Federal officials were forced to admit on Thursday that the CDC cleared the nurse to fly, heaping further pressure on an organisation that has been criticised for the speed of its response to the ebola crisis in America.
CDC spokesman David Daigle said 29-year-old Miss Vinson reported that her temperature was below 100.4 degrees (38C) and had no symptoms. Ebola sufferers are not contagious until they show symptoms.
As a result, the nurse was told she could travel on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143.

The plane's crew said Miss Vinson did not exhibit any symptoms of ebola during the flight on Monday.
Miss Vinson caught ebola after being one of several nurses to treat a man who came down with the virus and died after travelling to the US from Liberia.
She is the second nurse who treated Thomas Eric Duncan to test positive for ebola after he died in Dallas on 8 October.

The fact that two nurses caught the disease have also raised questions about how ready the US has been to cope with the virus.
More than 4,400 people have died in the West African states of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in the disease's worst ever outbreak.
The nurse has been transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where two Americans who contracted ebola while working in West Africa were successfully treated and released.

CDC director Dr Tom Frieden had earlier said that Miss Vinson should not have been allowed to travel by plane, but added that "the level of risk to people around her would be extremely low".
The other infected nurse, 26-year-old Nina Pham, remains in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas and is said to be in stable condition after receiving a plasma transfusion donated by ebola survivor Dr Kent Brantly.
President Barack Obama has cancelled a scheduled trip to Rhode Island and New York to remain at the White House to monitor the government's response.

Who's the idiot with the clipboard?'

'Who's the idiot with the clipboard?' Disbelief and panic as mystery man WITHOUT a hazmat suit helps second Ebola nurse board her plane to Atlanta, disposes waste and then climbs aboard
Man casually dressed in shirt and pants seen on live television walking with Amber Vinson
Surrounded by health care workers and Vinson ALL dressed in hazmat suits
Boarded the plane in Dallas after a weak Miss Vinson was helped on, and appears to have flown with her as he was later spotted at the Atlanta airport
Social media has dubbed him the 'clipboard man' - expressing shock that he came so close to an infected patient and unprotected
As of early Thursday morning, he remains unidentified. The ambulance service and Emory University Hospital said he was not with them
He may be with the CDC, which organized the flight from Dallas to Atlanta
However, they have not confirmed this despite being asked to
As news helicopters swarmed over Dallas' Love Field this evening to watch the second U.S. nurse to contract Ebola board a private plane bound for Atlanta, one lone mysterious man stood out from the pack.
Holding a clipboard and directing the transfer, the unidentified man seemed to be the only person on the tarmac without protective clothing, wearing just a button down shirt and trousers.
While Ebola is not an airborne disease, his presence so close to patient Amber Vinson's medical team sparked fears after he was seen grabbing a container and hazmat trash bag from one of the workers' in full-protective gear and later boarding the flight.
It is believed he flew with Vinson and the other hazmat-suited medical staff to Atlanta and local television crews spotted him with the stricken nurse as she disembarked at the airport in Georgia to be transferred to Emory University Hospital.
When the plane landed in Atlanta, the man had still not donned any protective clothing and was seen openly interacting with Vinson and the other medical professionals caring for the nurse.

I'm not into all the mass hysteria and scaremongering but surely when there is a case or even suspected case, EVERY precaution should be taken? Health workers who have had hands on experience with a patient who has Ebola should not be allowed to travel, whether showing symptoms or not for at least the incubation period. Imo, its the only way to halt this.

The Dallas Nurses Union has made a statement saying the protection was poor and too many Staff were underprotected when nursing Thomas Duncan.
The Hospital Managment say the fact that the Nurse felt sick BEFORE the flight was a breach of security and she should have cancelled her flight .

If that is what you believe then why do you post links contradicting what you claim? And more importantly, why don't you read the contents of the links you post before posting them? It could save you some embarrassment because it's a bit ridiculous to post newspaper articles which say the opposite of what you claim in your post.

You really must be confused. I quoted the relevant part of the link you posted and which said the exact opposite of what you stated in your post. You said the nurse felt ill before taking the flight and then posted a link. Usually people post links to confirm their statements. The problem is the first paragraph of the link you posted (and which was actually in bold so hard to miss) said the contrary as it stated that she took the flight the day before falling ill.
I'm admin and every time you post contradictory information I will deal with it where I think more appropriate. In this case on the thread where you posted the contradictory info. Unlike Dr Gerry McCann I don't think confusion is good.

Claudia, both Nurses treated the same Patient and this Nurse fell unwell before her flight.
Above is what you stated.
And then, in the link you posted, there's the following:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29632433
US health officials are seeking 132 people who flew on a plane with a Texas nurse on the day before she came down with symptoms of Ebola.
The second person infected in the US, Amber Vinson, 29, fell ill on Tuesday.
Both she and nurse Nina Pham, 26, had treated Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan, who died a week ago in Dallas.
A nurses' union has said those treating Duncan were not given full protection and had parts of their skin exposed
More than 70 healthcare workers who may have come in contact with him at the hospital are being monitored for symptoms, the hospital's director has said.
Meanwhile, the UN's Ebola mission chief says the world is falling behind in the race to contain the virus, which has killed more than 4,000 in West Africa.
On Wednesday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it wanted to interview the passengers on Frontier Airlines flight 1143 from Cleveland, Ohio, to Dallas, Texas on 13 October.
It said it was taking the measure "because of the proximity in time between the evening flight and first report of illness the following morning".
Both Ms Vinson and Ms Pham treated Duncan early in his stay at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas when he had "extensive production of body fluids", said CDC director Tom Frieden.
A national nurse union told reporters on Wednesday the health workers treating Duncan had not been properly protected and called for all health workers treating Ebola patients to receive full protective suits and training from hospitals.
Union director RoseAnn DeMoro said staff treated him for days without the necessary protective gear, and hazardous waste was allowed to pile up to the ceiling.
The CDC has appointed a "site manager" in Dallas to standardise the protective equipment and supervise the method of putting it off and on.
Ms Vinson flew to Cleveland on 10 October, even though she was being monitored for signs of Ebola and therefore should not have flown on a commercial aeroplane, Dr Frieden said.
When Ms Vinson returned from Ohio, she was not showing symptoms of the disease, the crew has told CDC investigators.
Health experts say people who are not showing symptoms are not contagious.
On the morning of 14 October, Ms Vinson came down with a fever and was isolated within 90 minutes. Her diagnosis was announced early on Wednesday.
One of the ill women is to be transferred to Emory University hospital in Atlanta, which oversaw the recovery of two US aid workers who had caught the disease in Africa.
Mr Duncan, who was the first person to be diagnosed in the US with Ebola, started showing symptoms of the disease just days after he arrived in Texas from Liberia, where he contracted it.
An initial set of 48 people who were in contact with him before he was admitted to hospital are nearing the end of the window in which they could develop an Ebola infection.
*In all but three cases the patient was infected with Ebola while in West Africa. Infection outside Africa has been restricted to health workers in Madrid and in Dallas. DR Congo has also reported a separate outbreak of an unrelated strain of Ebola.
How not to catch Ebola:
Avoid direct contact with sick patients as the virus is spread through contaminated body fluids
Wear goggles to protect eyes
Clothing and clinical waste should be incinerated and any medical equipment that needs to be kept should be decontaminated
People who recover from Ebola should abstain from sex or use condoms for three months
The World Health Organization (WHO) says 4,447 people have died from the outbreak, mainly in West Africa.
Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have been hardest hit by the outbreak, which began in December 2013 but was confirmed in March.
The White House has announced President Barack Obama will convene a meeting of his cabinet over the US response to Ebola later on Wednesday, cancelling a political trip.
Health officials have repeatedly warned more Ebola cases could be diagnosed in the US.

i think where this current and latest outbreak is concerned confusion is playing a big part. the WHO have a track record of being pessimistic. after all, aids and sars was going to kill us all. the media are so all over the place they couldn't find theirs asses with both hands. mistakes are being made and the people are being corralled into a place they call fear. give it a couple months and we'll all be panicking about how we're going to sit everyone round the dinner table at chriistmas.

I know, Marky, but I refuse to be dragged into that confusion and I refuse to believe it's OK to say something and it's contrary in the same post. I just heard on the eight o'clock news that Texas was thinking about invoking the calamity status. Why? Because two nurses contracted Ebola. I hope it's a joke or a lie because if it isn't, it couldn't be more ridiculous.
