EXCLUSIVE: MI5 spies know what happened to Maddie McCann claims Portuguese detective
MI5 AGENTS know what happened to missing Madeleine McCann but are covering it up, claims former Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral.

The disgraced detective made the bombshell claim in a Portuguese television documentary that openly mocked Scotland Yard’s new investigation. When asked if people will ever learn what really happened, Mr Amaral responded: “Yes, we will, when MI5 opens the case files, we will find out.
“Don’t forget that the British secret services followed the case right from the beginning. I don’t know if that information will be made available but if it’s like the United States, it takes years to have access to confidential information.”
Mr Amaral, 56, was the officer who co-ordinated the Portuguese police investigation from May 3, 2007, when three-year-old Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday apartment at Praia da Luz on the Algarve.
After criticising British police he was kicked off the case four months later.
In his latest interview he claims that after two British police dogs were used to searched the McCann’s apartment at the Ocean Club, his team had to take the British person responsible for the operation to Faro Airport.

Amaral, now retired and working as a crime writer, went on: “He’s at the airport waiting for a plane to return to England and he receives a phone call. Then he explains to our colleague that a member of MI5 was at the airport, waiting to talk with him about the result of the investigation.
“Someone has the information, so make the information available.”
There has been suspicion in the senior ranks of Portugal’s police that US and/or British intelligence chiefs have satellite images of the area that could be helpful but have never passed them on.
The latest Scotland Yard squad is apparently working on the theory that Madeleine was abducted by burglars who were also involved in drug trafficking. Mr Amaral said the same theory was put forward by a Yard detective seconded to his team seven years ago.
“It was discussed and completely set aside because it made no sense,” he said. “Nobody has proved the house was broken into, that there was a theft, there are no traces of a break-in. No money, cameras or anything else was taken.”
He said he expects the latest Yard inquiry to wind down soon, without a breakthrough, adding: “They are getting to the point of saying that she is dead.
“They will reach the point of saying that the cadaver can’t be found and the case can’t be solved.”
Mr Amaral will face Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, at a civil court in Lisbon on July 8.
The couple, who cling to the hope their daughter might be alive, are suing him for £1million for libel over his claim that Madeleine died in the apartment, made in his book The Truth Of The Lie.

(FORGETTING to mention that HE is personally receiving £28,000pa, (£538.46p @ WEEK) as a 'retainer' out of the 'donations' given to the FindMadeleine 'fund'!)

When he says it's 'disgusting', he actually means it's 'disgusting' that OTHER people, besides himself, are trying to make money out of Madeleine's plight.

maybe but it well and truly out there that M15 were involved somehow. and maybe people will ask why? that's interesting also that the person who was responsible for bringing in the dogs was escorted to the airport. didn't know that??

I think this will come as a surprise to the general public in the UK who have not been following the case as closely as others. Or, are they just fed up after seven years of imminent arrests, etc.? In any case, I think this is the first time I have read, in a UK paper, the suggestion that MI5 were involved. It might just get more people questioning WHY???? Is there a talk show host willing to discuss the matter; probably not with Carter Ruck monitoring all.

Is it me or was the initial report that it was MI6 who were out in PdL when Madeleine was abducted went missing?

I don't imagine that Carter Ruck are going to get involved on behalf of the security services. As long as nothing is said about the McCanns that cannot be substantiated, then CR will have no cause to complain.

It doesn't really matter but MI5 are the UK domestic counter-intelligence and security agency and MI6 (SIS) operate internationally. It would be MI6 involved in Portugal. Obviously if something happens to affect UK national security abroad by a UK national then both agencies would be involved. One of the Mccanns appears to be involved in some sort of "security" issue (imo) hence the UK Prime Minister intervention and appointment of the ex-government pr spokesman to protect the British, sorry I mean, the McCanns interests.

I have to wonder if this reference to Mr. Amaral's interview is the Express' way of reminding people of the July 8 court date. It does as well say that the Chief Investigator said there was no trace of a break-in and "nothing" was taken.

And poor Saint Kate couldn't cope. Glad she was never anything to do with my or my family's health, I've looked in the prescribing guide for abduction p.r.n. and couldn't find it listed.

Kate McCann was hardly on her own as she had family staying with her most off the time.


Holidays....the mccanns NEVER holidayed on there own, it was always with other people and their children...no doubt so the children can mingle with other children and take the pressure off them looking after their own kids on the own.


I also wonder why they chose to go to holland to get IVF coinciding with Gerry doing his research when they had frozen eggs ready in this country....surely they could off waited a year and did it when they came back, it would off given Kate more time to bond with Madeleine...there was no hurry.

Madeleine was either being looked after by family or with a nanny or in a creche or even looked after by the cleaner.


No wonder the child felt left out when the twins came along.


Even when they went to holland Madeleine was dumped in a nursery .
