Thanks, interested.
EXCLUSIVE: Police urged to shelve Maddie hunt as cops needed in UK to battle terrorism
POLICE were last night urged to shelve the hunt for Madeleine McCann as detectives battle terrorism and a wave of murders.

Well now - union chiefs wouldn't be union chiefs if they didn't have something to complain about. It's their raison d'être.
So taking that as a given, let's look a little closer.
This piece has Gimp Lawton's name at the top, but it also has Mitchell's grubby paw prints all over it.
Several times now, Mitchell has attempted to stir up taxpayers by highlighting the cost of Grange.
But there has been no rioting over that one, so this time a couple of other populist bêtes noires have been chucked into the mix - a rising murder crime wave and the threat of terrorism.
So before any red mist appears in front of the general populace's eyes, we must first ask ourselves who has most to gain if Grange is scrapped - it's a no-brainer, innit?
Next up is the usual question - why now?
Could it be that the most recent SY/PJ meeting (hush-hush and in the Portuguese AG's office with a UK Attorney General rep and the UK Ambassador present) sounds anything but 'routine'?
And because of that, could it be that certain UK citizens are now doing this? >>>

John Tully, the union chief quoted in the article, has tweeted this:

@veniviedivici I've no problems with the content of the article, although I didn't say what the headline suggests -Inference taken I suppose

Face saving get out from the 'investigation'. SY need a 'reason' to get out. Simples.
They couldn't even whitewash mccanns never mind to prove that abduction ever happened. £10m ..4 years..nothing. Pathetic.

"Inference taken", meetings in Portugal, 31 full time detectives investigating the "abduction" (with no evidence of same). They have the evidence contained in the official files, there was no need for the four year "investigation" in the first place.
I don't know what to make of this latest news - Mitchell spin, setting the public up for the end of the "high profile long time search" Gerry spoke of almost eight years ago, or what?
Is it meant as a distraction, coming as it does on the eve of the inquest into Brenda Leyland's death, or what?

Not totally accurate, "nothing new" is probably more precise. They did "definitively" rule out Tannerman and presumably concluded none of those re-interviewed had anything to do with it even if the Portugese got there first at much less cost. You may however be right it is a "how do we wind this up without a result" attempt. A bit lame after all the hype about solving the case at the outset.

Anorak's take on calling off the hunt - "....10 million pound is a fortune for a case that has progressed not one inch." www.anorak.co.uk (under "News" and then "Madeleine McCann")
