Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
Front page of the Sun: "Serial killer casts doubt on McCanns - Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur" - not what I expected to see on the front page the day following the solemn commemoration of the July 7th bombings in London.

Re: Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
From what I've seen of the Ripper's comments, they were extremely reasonable.
Presumably though the intention of the tabloids is to link McCann doubters with murdering psychopaths.

Actually I think the opposite.....I think they want to link the murderer to the McCann's, as in 'takes one to know one' type of scenario

Re: Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
About the article in the Sun, they publish the letter of apparently a friend but they forgett very conveniently some words:
"Sutcliffe, who killed 13 women and tried to kill seven more from 1975 to 1980, writes: “As for the Madeleine McCann case? For quite a while I had every sympathy for the parents at their terrible loss... (letter) ..But there’s something not quite right about it all, the latest thing is that the police say . . .”
And they omitt after "terrible loss" the words written in the letter "As you say" that imply that it was the penfriend who was the first to criticize the Mccanns!

Re: Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
I don't know what to make of this. I can't imagine what his female admirers get out of this 'relationship' other than letters which they can sell to the press. I did notice that the DM has pictured four of the most atrocious/wicked people I would not care to have corresponded with.
I'm curious about the date of the letter mentioned; was it written lately or eight years ago? Also when was it purchased by the Sun and why was it published at this particular time?
I hope the Sun is not trying to convey the message that those of us who question the McCanns' role in Madeleine's "disappearance" belong in Broadmoor.

I doubt their readership would be sufficiently subtle to pick that up.

Must go down as the most ridiculous 'mccann' story ever (and that takes some doing).Anyone giving any time to the musings of a mass murderer needs their head examined. Not even the ugly couple mccann would comment on this, its just daft.

"The Sun has let the genie out of the bottle" according to one recent contributor to Dr. Amaral's Legal Defence Fund, also adding 99% of the comments to the Sun are questioning the McCanns.
Recent donations now bring the fund to over 34,000 pound.

Re: Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
jassi... Basically, Gerry is working class in origin, and Kate is lower middle class in origin, and both are insults to those origins, wouldn't you say? I am the former, who was brought up the latter, so I know what I am talking about... at least for the UK.
It does not MATTER a hang about their accents, or their origins, but I agree with the humour of your posting. There is a big difference in culture on this topic on different sides of the pond. As an ex anthropologist, it interests me. Nice people have every kind of accent and origin, and posher (if clever and decently educated) or less than posh jobs as the cookie crumbles. The core of the problem is that G and K are NOT nice people. Also, merely out of my opinion this bit, they are irredeemably vulgar in that they think that because they have middle class jobs that fact somehow trumps and excuses their unpleasant behaviour. They think MONEY always talks. In the end... it doesn't!
I am told it is different in the States. Donald Trump for president, anyone? Evidently less than great and competent people can BUY status quite securely in America. Come to think of it, George Bush for president anyone?... Oh I forgot... he made it.

Actually it does. No one of the upper classes would have either a scouse or Glaswegian accent. I would agree that they are vulgar.

Re: Ripper's Vile Maddie Slur - The Sun
I've always thought their "status" in the community would be based on both of them being Doctors. Based on their humble or working-class backgrounds, I tend to think of them as having made "it", or as my parents used to say, 'they worked hard and made something of themselves'.
As far as accents go, I can tell the difference between a posh one and say David Beckham's (every time I hear him say ME and Victoria....., I cringe) but I can't differeniate others as being from certain parts of the UK, beyond English, Scottish, Irish and Welch.
I'm a big Downton Abbey fan and find it much easier to understand the Crawley family than I do the downstairs staff.

to jassi ctd.
I meant that it doesn't matter about their accents in the sense that decent people can have any kind of accent, jassi, not that their accents don't immediately mark them out as not being upper middle class. Their status is entirely dependent on their being 'doctors', which to my mind is daft. Shipman was a 'doctor', as in GP, and he was neither middle class nor admirable in any way... He was a murderer of hundreds of his patients... it seems just because he could... in case anyone doesn't know the name.
In the old days when everyone cared most about their 'souls,' it was vicars who were given overmuch adulation merely because of their status/role. Nowadays almost everyone cares about their bodies and their health most so it is GPs who get the same unreasonable reverential respect.
I do recognise that K and G they must have worked hard at school, or else got lucky, to have become medics in the first place.

Shipman was a 'doctor'
Myles Bradbury was a VERY, VERY, 'respected' CONSULTANT paediatric haematologist! (for 7 YEARS, at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge)
One neighbour said: 'He seemed like somebody who wanted to do good. Everybody’s in complete shock because HE SEEMED SO NORMAL AND NICE."
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2855803/Paedophile-children-s-doctor-Myles-Bradbury-jailed-22-years.html
I will tell you this, for nothing!
If you had gone to the big 'boss' at Addenbrookes Hospital and 'said' that 'I think your consultant, Myles Bradbury is a paedophile, 'touching up' the bed bound cancer kids'
You WOULD have been 'met' with this 'response'!
"Get the fcuk out of MY hospital! Myles Bradbury is one of the 'good guys'! He's a consultant, for Christ's sake! A 'pillar' of our community! He's a church-goer! He raises money for charity! Myles is one of the most respected consultants in the UK and we were delighted when he came to Addenbrookes! I cannot believe you're casting doubts on his character! We, and Myles, WILL sue YOU for bringing Addenbrookes into disrepute!
"NOW GET THE FCUK OUT OF MY HOSPITAL, UNBELIEVABLE!"
Yeah, well, 'something' was 'unbelievable' about Bradbury!
His 'hippocratic oath'! (an 'oath' stating the obligations and proper conduct of doctors)

That is a striking example of the absolute awfulness of automatic adulation for doctors as doctors (and because he was clever enough never to give clue about his proclivities) and never believing anything bad could be possible from them.

Jonathan Thomson-Glover, 53, is accused of installing cameras in various locations around prestigious Clifton College, where he taught German for more than 30 years, and at one other address.
He faces 36 counts of making, taking and possessing indecent images of children. They relate to between 120 and 160 alleged victims, who were between 12 and 17 at the time of filming, and span a 16-year period.
---------------------------------------------------
In a statement the school said they had been "shocked" by the allegations, and were "cooperating fully with the police".
"The safety and happiness of our pupils is our top priority and we have rigorous safeguarding policies and procedures in place which have been independently reviewed to ensure we meet the highest standards."
– Clifton College statement
---------------------------------------
AND, IF YOU HAD 'SAID' TO THE 'PRINCIPAL' AT CLIFTON COLLEGE..............'I THINK Jonathan Thomson-Glover, IS TAKING, AND HAS, INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN'
YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN 'RUN OUT OF TOWN'!
'HOW VERY DARE YOU, 'BLACKEN' Jonathon's 'OUTSTANDING, OVER 30 YEARS, REPUTATION'!
WE, and Jonathon, WILL SUE YOU!
