Madeleine McCann may NEVER be found in 'waste of money' search, top cop claims
A DETECTIVE who rejected the opportunity to head the Madeleine McCann inquiry believes finding her could be “almost impossible”.
By Jerry Lawton / Published 3rd April 2018
Colin Sutton told a TV documentary that her body could have been buried down any one of 600 ancient wells near the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz, from where she vanished in 2007.
And he predicted the Metropolitan Police stood little chance of finding her, despite recently being handed extra cash to continue their search.
Sutton said investigators faced a “thankless task” and added: “It’s almost impossible without specific intelligence that would allow you to focus on a specific area.
"It’s a large area of low population and scrubland and ancient wells. And there are areas where humans don’t go from one decade to the next."
He added: "It would be very easy to secrete something there and be very confident it wouldn’t be found."
Sutton said the only hope was someone who knew what had happened to Madeleine would eventually reveal her fate.
Forensic scientist Professor David Barclay, who has studied the area, said: “It was the easiest place to hide a body I’ve ever visited."
Local journalist Paul Luckman, who runs Portugal News, claimed there were “vast quantities” of hiding places.
The revelations emerged in a re-worked TV documentary screened this weekend on Australia’s Channel 7 – days after the Home Office granted extra funding so that the inquiry could carry on for another six months.
Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann, from Rothley, Leics, continue to hope she may still be found alive.

A TOP cop who turned down the chance to lead the Madeleine McCann inquiry believes finding her is “almost impossible”.
Colin Sutton told a documentary that Maddie’s corpse could be buried down any one of 600 ancient wells near Praia da Luz, from where she vanished in 2007.
He also predicted the Metropolitan Police stood little chance of finding her, despite recently being handed extra cash to continue their search.
Sutton said investigators faced a “thankless task” and claiming “it’s almost impossible without specific intelligence that would allow you to focus on a specific area.”
He said the only hope was someone who knew what had happened to Madeleine would finally cough up.
Sutton added: “It would be very easy to secrete something there and be very confident it wouldn’t be found.’’
Forensic scientist Professor David Barclay, who has studied the area also claimed it was “the easiest place to hide a body” he had ever visited.
Local journalist Paul Luckman, who runs Portugal News, claimed there were “vast quantities” of hiding places.
The new details will be revealed in an Australian documentary screened this weekend on the country’s Channel 7.
It comes just days after the Home Office granted more funding so the inquiry could continue for six more months.
Gerry and Kate McCann, from Rothley, Leics, still hope their daughter will be found alive.

Re: Top Brit Cop: We May Never Find Maddie - Daily Star
Thanks to "cherry1" for both articles. I seem to remember that Colin Sutton thought Madeleine was abducted but now speaks of her as being buried. In any case his position now is any further funding is a mistake. The older I get the harder it is for me to keep track of the positions some individuals now have vs what they may have previously stated. I'm just trying to keep up-to-date and appreciate any help in doing so as we don't get any Madeleine news here in Canada.

If I remember correctly Colin Sutton was advised not to take the case on as he wouldn't be allowed to investigate all possibilities and would be directed as to what he could look at. He can't believe the McCanns and friends were not questioned again and their timeline looked at.

Re: Top Brit Cop: We May Never Find Maddie - Daily Star
Well, after almost 11 years and God alone knows how many millions of pounds/euros wasted on donations from government, school children and caring pensioners frittered away on fruitless pointless searches... But more importantly the life and career of a Portuguese police officer ruined by the parents. A caring woman hounded and harrassed to take her own life by the crazed press who supported the parents, one of whom refused to assist the Portuguese Police who led the original operation into the disappearance of their daughter.
But hey... Dr Gerry did manage to travel the world, and his caring wife was hailed one of the 20 most inspirational women in Britain for refusing to give up on the search for missing daugher Madeleine. Twitter: https://twitter.com/MetroUK | Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroUK/
Shame about your refusal to answer questions Hey Kate?

Re: Top Brit Cop: We May Never Find Maddie - Daily Star
That's what it all goes back to for me - that Madeleine's mother refused to answer questions!! That, together with the dogs' alerts, which most people including police, consider "evidence" whether or not a court would consider alerts as such. Hearing of the alerts alone would destroy most parents, but the McCanns dismissed the dogs as not credible. And so the charade of 'abduction' began. It is truly unbelievable that their "story" of abduction has gone on and been funded for now close to eleven years, without even a thought to the other people whose lives they have adversely affected.
