Rogue Bull Gores Runner To Death In Spain
12:07pm UK, Friday July 10, 2009
A festival-goer has been gored to death during the traditional Running of the Bulls in the Spanish city of Pamplona - the first such fatality in nearly 15 years.
A man is thrown into the air by a bull during the Plamplona festival
Daniel Jimeno Romero, a 27 year-old Spaniard, was gored in the neck after one of the beasts veered into a group of runners, a Navarre regional government official said.
Photographs showed a man lying on a stretcher moments after the goring, his face and neck stained with blood and his eyes only half-open.
An emergency medical worker was pictured leaning over him, applying what appears to be gauze to his neck wound.
Fellow runners had tried to distract the animal by pulling on its tail and hitting it with sticks
He (the deceased) could not survive after the horn hit him in the neck. The deadly blow from the horn hit the aorta and the lung.

Nine others were injured in a particularly messy and dangerous chapter of the event.
Three other people were also gored, and six suffered bumps, bruises and other lesser injuries, Virgen del Camino Hospital director Fernando Boneta said.

The Running of the Bulls
The festival was made famous by Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises.
Hundreds of runners from around the world now participate in the week-long fiesta.
Many drink all night before an early morning run through the city's streets in front of bulls rushing to the bull ring.
The last fatal goring at the running of the bulls claimed the life of 22-year-old American Matthew Tassio in 1995.
In 2003, a 63-year-old Spanish man, Fermin Etxeberri, was trampled in the head by a bull and died after spending months in a coma.
The latest death raises the toll to 15 fatalities since record-keeping began in 1924.
The beasts covering the half-mile course, with six accompanying steers, tend to mind their own business and keep running so long as they stay in a pack.
A bull that gets separated is more likely to get aggressive

I am probably going top be really unpopular here but I think it's about bloody time people left these animals alone! The bullfighting sport is a nasty one and is really unfair to these animals. I am suprised more people are not killed actually. I know this is an annual event, and is not actually bullfighting, but I am sorry to say I hate this sport, and reodeos for that matter. They are cruel.

Serves him right!!!
I do not agree with bullfighting or this stupid anuual event.....never have and never will and if these idiots want to take risks in taking on the bulls then they should suffer the consequences so I have no pity for the ones who get hurt every year in Pamplona nor for this idiot who died!
